Know ye that I the said John Howcott for and in consideration of a Plantation in Exchange from my Brother Edward Howcott of Bertie Precinct Yeoman have bargained sold and Exchanged and by these Presents do fully freely Clearly and absolutely give grant bargain sell alien Enforffe Release Convey Confirm assign Transfer and set over unto him the said Edward Howcott his heirs and assigns forever a Certain plantation or parcel of Land Situate Lying and being in Bertie precinct aforesaid Now in the possession of the said Edward Howcott Containing by Estimation Eighty acres be the same more or less bounded thus viz. beginning at a Black Gum upon the Mill Creek then running along Joseph Newbys Land Line to the Head of Fire____ branch then to a pine a Line _____ by Capt. Downings path then Down the said Path to the Head of a Deep Bottom running out of Vixes (or Nixes?) Branch then Down the said Bottom and vixes branch and the Mill Creek to the first station. To Have and to Hold the said plantation and parcel of Land and all and singular the Rights Privileges Commodities profits advantages Hereditaments appertenances and appendants thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining unto the said Edward Howcott his heirs and assigns forever In fee simple absolutely to the only use and behoof of him and them forever In as full and ample manner to all Intents and purposes as the Most Learned in the Law can Devise Further I the said John Howcott for my self my heirs executors administrators do Covenant and Engage to and with the sid Edward Howcott his heirs and assigns forever to warrant and forever Defend the said plantation and parcel of Land with its appurtnances free from all Incumbrances whatsoever accruing Quitrents only Excepted unto him the said Edward Howcott his heirs and assigns forever against all other Lawfull Claims whatsoever In witness whereof I the said John Howcott Have Hereunto set my hand and seal this 26 day of Sept.
