Know ye that I Thomas Ashley of Bertie Precinct in the government aforesaid Blacksmith for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds publick money of this government to me in hand paid before the assigning and sealing of these presents well and truly Paid by Edward Howkett Senior of the said Precinct Planter. Have given granted Bargained and sold and by these Presents do freely fully and absolutely give grant Bargain sell Alien Convey and Confirm unto him the said Edward Howkett his heirs and assigns forever a Tract of Land Lying in the precinct aforesaid upon Rawquiss Swamp Containing by Estimation three hundred and forty acres be it more or less butted and Bounded Then Viz. Beginning at Phillip Walstons Corner on the East side of Rawquiss Swamp then with his line North sixty five East twenty Pole to a Pine Jonathan Stanleys Corner then with his other Line south Eighty five East to the Center of a Pine a Maple and a White Oak another of Walston's Corner in Colonel Cullen Pollocks Line then along his line South five West Three hundredand Twenty Poles to the Center of a Hickory Spanish Oak and Sourwood on Rawquiss swamp then the various windings of the swamp to the first station which said tract of land Was granted to James Castellaw by virtue of a Pattent which will there more largly appear. To Have and to hold the said granted and bargained Premisses with all the appurtenances priviledges and Commodities to the same belonging or any wise appertaining to him the said Edward Howkett his heirs and assigns forever to his and their own Proper use and behoof forever and I the said Thomas Ashley for my self my heirs executors and administrators do Covenant Promise and grant to and with the said Edward Howkett his heirs and had before the Ensealing hereof I am the true sole and lawfull owner of the above Bargained Premises and am Lawfully Seized and Possessed of the same in mine own Proper Right as a Perfect Estate of Inheritance in Fee Simple and Have in my Self a good Right full Power and Lawfull authority to grant Bargain sell Convey and Confirm the said Bargained Premises in Manner as above said and that the said Edward Howkett his heirs and assigns from time to time and at all times forever hereafter by force and Virtue of these Presents may Lawfully Peaceable and Quietly Have hold use Occupy Possess and Enjoy the said Demised and Bargained Premises with the appurtenances free and Clear and freely and Clearly acquitted Exonerated and Discharged of from all manner of former and other gifts grants bargains sales Leases mortgages wills Intails Joynters Dowrys Judgments Executions Incumbrances and Exhibits. Furthermore I the said Thomas Ashley for myself my heirs Executors administrators do Covenant and Engage the above Demised Premises to him the said Edward Howkett his heirs or assigns against the Lawfull Claim and Demands of any Person or Persons Whatsoever to Warrant, Defend and Secure and Ann theWife of me, Thomas Ashley doth hereby Renounce all her Right of Dowry and Power of thirds unto the above Demised Premises.
