All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Lisagraham32@aol.com Lisa Graham http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm Book F page 182 John Lee & Mary Lee and Theophilus Pugh This indenture the 21st day of August in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty, between John Lee of Edgecombe County in the province of North Carolina, and Mary Lee his Wife, of the one Part, and Theophilus Pugh of the Colony of Virginia and County of Nansemond of the other part, witnesseth that the said John Lee for and in consideration of the Sum of Two Hundred Pounds Current money of the Province of North Carolina to him in hand paid By the said Theo. Pugh, The receipt whereof the said John Lee Doth hereby acknowledge, hath granted , bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, Alein, and confirm unto the said Theophilus Pugh his heirs and assigns a tract of land and plantation containing Six hundred and Forty Acres on the West side of Keneetoe Creek and Bertie County, being the Tract of Land Granted to the Said John Lee and a patent bearing date the 28th Day of September, Anno. Domi. One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty References being had to the said Patent for the bounds thereof and also all the trees, woods, underwoods, pastures, profits, Commodities, houses, outhouses, appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging in any wise appurtenances and also the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders and every part thereof to the said premises belonging and all the estate, right , title and interests of the said John Lee and Mary , Wife to the said Premises and every part thereof to have and to hold the said land and all and singular the premises aforesaid with the appurtenances to the said. Theophilus Pugh his heirs and assigns to the only proper use on behalf of the said Theo. Pugh his heirs and assigns forever and the said John Lee, for himself his Heirs, executors, the said Land and premises and every part thereof free from all incumbrances, right of dower, against him and his heirs and against every other person of the said Theo. Pugh his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof the said Parties have hereunto set their hands and seal the day and year first above Written (Signed) John Lee X (Seal) Sealed and delivered in the presence of T. Baker, John Pugh, W. Taylor, Jurat. Bertie County. February Court 1740, the above deed of sale was duly proved in Open Court by the Oath of William Taylor, one of the subscribing witnesses, thereto is ordered to be registered. Test.
