Lee to Spite Book D page 164 To all Christian People to whom these presents shall come greeting, Know ye that I, John Lee of Bertie Precinct in the Province of North Carolina, Planter, for the valuable consideration of the sum of Eighty Pounds Current money, the receipt whereof I acknowledge and consider myself fully satisfied and contented and of every part and parcel thereof do exonerate, acquit and discharge the said Thomas Spite, his heirs and assigns forever, have given granted, bargained,Sold , conveyed and confirmed unto the Thomas Spite his Heirs and assigns forever one messuage of tract of land granted to me by patent bearing date the 28th day of September 1730. Beginning at the mouth of a Branch on the West side of WILLIAM AVERIT Land bought out of the same patent and running along the headline, thence up the said Branch to the fork, thence along a line of marked trees to a Sweet Gum, thence along a line of marked trees to a Sweet Gum, then along the headline of said Patent to a Black Oak, being a marked Tree, Thence down a line of marked trees, The Corner of the said Patent Line to the Creek, then down the meanders of the creek to the first Station. It being by estimation Three Hundred Acres be the same more or less, To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the appurtances, privilidges and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise assertaining to him the said Thomas Spite, his heirs and assigns forever ,to his and their only proper use and behalf forever and the said John Lee for my heirs and assigns do covenant promise and agree to and with the said, Thomas Spite his heirs and assigns, that before the ensealing and delivery hereof I, the true sole and lawful owner of the above bargained premises and am lawfully seized and possessed of the same in fee simple and have in myself good right, full power and lawful authority to grant sell and Convey the same in my own proper right as a good and perfect and absolute Estate of inheritance and in manner as above and that the said Thomas Spite his heirs and assigns shall may from time to time and at all times forever hereafter peaceably and quietly have hold and occupy possess and enjoy the said demised and bargained premises by virtue of these presence and all appurtenances there unto belonging free and clear and freely and clearly acquitted exonerated and discharged all and from all manner of incumbrances and I the said John Lee for me, my heirs executors and administrators do covenant and engage the above demise premise to him, the said Thomas Spite his heirs and assigns forever hereafter the said Spit to pay the Kings due to Warrant Secure and defend and witness whereof I have here with set my hand and seal this 19th Day of October 1734.
