Moore, party of the first part, and Charles J. Moore, of the second part, both of the County of Bertie and State of North Carolina witnesses, that the said Charles S. Moore, for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dollars to him in hand paid and secured to be paid before the delivery of this Instrument, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted, bargained, and sold, and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell and convey to the said Charles J. Moore, his heirs and afsigns, subject to the reservations hereinafter mentioned, a certain tract, piece, or parcel of land, situate, lying and being in the said County, lying on Cashie River, beginning at a Black Gum, on the north corner of the Cherry Tree Island; thence running up the branch to a small Persimmon tree near the brick yard gate; thence acrofs the clay yard to a small pine sapling; thence a straight course to a big ditch, below John Moore’s brick yard, thence down that big ditch to the Ray Field Swamp, thence along and up the middle of the Ray Field Swamp opposite the end of another large ditch, thence to and up that large ditch to the mouth of Stony Bottom where it empties into White Pocosin, thence up Stoney Bottom River to the lands which formerly belonged to John S. Sutton and Ephraim Weston & Emily Hoggard to Cashie River; thence up said River its various courses to the mouth of the Ray Field Swamp, thence up the Ray Field Swamp to the high land at the graveyard, thence along the edge of the Pocosin not including the Pocosin, to the first station, containing three hundred and eighty acres more or lefs, reserving to the said Charles S. Moore and his afsigns for and during his natural life all the river land which is under fence, containing about one hundred acres and also the dwelling house and outhouses thereto attached, to have and to hold to the said Charles J. Moore with the reservations aforesaid, his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof. And I, the said Charles S. Moore, do, for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, covenant and agree with the said Charles J. Moore, that I am seised of the said bargained tract of land in fee simple; that I am well entitled to convey the same, and that I will forever warrant and defend the title to the said bargained premises against the lawful title, claim and demand of every person whatever.
