Lords Proprietor Land Grant to John Bush;  2 August 1727

His Excellency John Ld. Carteret palatin etc. do hereby give and grant unto 
John Bush of our Said County a Tract of Land containing 640 Acres lying in 
Bertie precinct beginning at three pines Andrew Stephensons Corner then S 72 E 
60 pole to 2 pines and a red Oak John Davis’s Corner thence So. 5 Est. 240 
pole to a pine thence So. 2 Est. 160 pole to a pine thence So. 60 Est. 80 pole 
to a pine thence So. 5 Wt. 140 po. thence No. 80 Wt. 140 po. to a Live Oak on 
the East Side of Barbacue Swamp thence down the Said Swamp to a poplar on the 
No. Et. Side thereof thence No. 75 Et. 190 pole to the first Station being due 
etc..

To have and to hold etc. Yielding and paying etc. Yearly etc. the fee Rent of 
one shilling for every fifty Acres etc. given etc. the 2nd Day of August 1727.

NB  Since 1723 (Elizabeth Blount) the rent has doubled from 1 shilling per 100 
A to 1 sh./ 50 A.   

This  is John Bush’s second grant – he also got one for 520 Acres  in 1716.
