Bertie COUNTY NC Deed William Rayner to Whitmell Ruffin 1840 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Virginia Crilley varcsix@hot.rr.com http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm Bertie County Deed Book FF pg 49 William Rayner to Whitmel Ruffin - 1840 This indenture made this 31 day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty between William Rayner of the county of Bertie and State of North Carolina of the first and Whitmel Ruffin of the same county and state of the second part witnesseth that the said William Rayner for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and forty five dollars ($245) to him in hand paid or cause to be paid by the said Whitmell Ruffin the receipt whereof is herby acknowledges hat bargained and sold conveyed and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain and sell, convey and confirm unto the said Whitmel Ruffin a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county of Bertie containing one hundred and eighty five (185) acres be the same more or less but and bound as follows. Beginning at the run of Barbecue Swamp at the old road William Perry's line Thence up the road to a pine John Trussels (?) line ___ by Charles Freeman's line Thence along said ____ line to the run of Barbecue Swamp Thence down the run of said swamp various causes to the first station to have and to hold the said Bargain and premises absolute and ___ and all manner of cumbrances whatsoever and the said William Rayner for himself his heirs and assigns sall and will well and truly warrent and maintain good and lawful right and title __ from lawful claim or claims of all every other person or persons whatsoever in testimony whereof I the Wiliam Rayner hath here unto set my hand and affix my seal this the day and year above written.
