*James Rice to Charles Sowell Bill of Sale

Know all men by these presents that I James Rice of Bertie
County and State of North Carolina for and in consideration
of fifty pounds in hand paid unto me by Charles Sowell of the
county and State aforesaid the receipt is hereby acknowledged
hath agreed Bargained Sold and Confirmed and by these
presents doth agree bargain Sell and confirm unto the Said 
Charles Sowell his heirs and assigns forever one Negro Child
named Cherry about four years old unto the proper use benefit
and behoof of him the Said Charles Sowell his heirs and assigns 
forever and I the Said James Rice for myself my heirs executors
and Administrators do warrant Maintain and forever defend the
right and title of the Said Negro Cherry unto the Said Charles
Sowell his heirs and assigns forever against all lawfull Claims
right or title of any person or persons whatsoever In witness
whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 31st Decr
1814
