Beginning at a black-gum Thomas Veales and James Grimes corner in deep Branch thence up the various coarses of said Branch 63 pole to Kenneth Clark's line Then along his line S10 W 65 pole to a red Oak in Isaac Gardner's line Then along his line S 64 1/2 E 28 pol to a dead pine James Grimes Charles King and Isaac Gardners corner Then bounded by Charles King's line to a pine in said King's line Thomas Veals & James Grimes corner Then N 65 W 31 pole to the first station - all of which land in the above boundary containing by estimation fifty four acres be the same more or less & I the said James Ruffin for myself my heirs, Execs, Admist & assigns have bargained sold and conveyed to the said John Hendren him his heirs exer or Adm with all the privileges profits or advantages therein contained or in any wise appertaining to him and his heirs and assigns forever for the sum of one hundred & Ninety five dollars $195 to me the said James Ruffin in hand paid the rec't whereof I hereby acknowledge myself fully satisfied and paid and furthermore I the said James Ruffin do warrant and agree to and with the said John Hendren do forever warrant & defend the title of the said land unto the said John Hendren clear from all incumbrances rights or claims of any person whatsoever for myself my heirs, exers or Adms as witness our hand & seals the day and date above mentioned. Bond Additional Comments: James Ruffin was the son of William and Penelope Ruffin. He and Margaret were moving to Jones County, GA about this time. James died there around 1820 and his "orphans" participated in the Georgia Land Lotteries. Since she signed this deed as well, this land might have been part of her Veal family.
