All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Paul Johnson http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm CHARLES SHADGETT AND WIFE ELIZA OF THE FIRST PART, AND LITTLETON JOHNSON JUNR This indenture made and entered into this tenth day of February 1846, between Charles Shadgett and wife Eliza of the first part, and Littleton Johnson Junr. of the second part, all of the county of Bertie and State of North Carolina: witnesseth that the said Charles Shadgett and wife Sally Eliza, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and twenty five dollars, to them in hand paid by the said Littleton Johnson Junr. before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof they do here by acknowledge and the said Littleton from the payment whereof hereby release, have bargained and sold, aliened and conveyed and by these presents do bargain and sell alien, convey and confirm unto the said Littleton Johnson, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county aforesaid, on the south side of what is commonlycalled Hoggard's Mill pond, adjoining the lands of Joshua Rayner, William White and others it being one of the tracts of land allotted to the said Sally Eliza, in the division of the lands of her father the late William Hoggard, containing by estimation two hundred and fifty acres more or less, To have and to hold the said bargained tract of land to him the said Littleton Johnson his heirs and assigns forever, together with all and singular the rights and privileges to it appurtenant, or in any wise belonging to his and their only proper use benefit and behoof. And the said Charles Shadgett and Sally Eliza his wife, do for themselves, their heirs, Executors and Administrators covenant to and with the said Littleton Johnson, his heirs and assigns, that they are seized in fee simple of the said tract of land and have a right to convey the same, and that they will forever warrant and defend the title, against the lawful title or claim of each and evey person whatsoever.
