Bertie County NC Deed Ruffin, John to Harrell, Luke - 1819 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Virginia Crilley crilley@eramp.net Sarah King (daughter of Wm 5, Wm4, Wm3, Rob2) left the land in Martin Co, North Carolina, where she and her husband, David, had lived, to her 6 brothers: James, John, Henry, Thomas, Whitmell and Blount. These are 3 of those deeds. James sold his 1/6 earlier to Thomas, but we don't know what happened to Whitmell and Blount's portion. This needs to be traced....It is interesting to note that although the original sell was in Jan 1819, it is not recorded until 1822. THOMAS RUFFIN sells $183.33 2/6 of an undivided tract Jan 18th 1819 This Indenture made this 18th day of January 1819 between THOMAS RUFFIN of the State of No Carolina and county of Bertie of the one part and LUKE HARRELL of the County of MARTIN and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said THOMAS RUFFIN for and in consideration of the sum of One Hundred and Eighty Three dollars and Thirty three cents to him in hand paid by the said Luke Harrell the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath granted bargained sold and conveyed and by these present do hereby grant bargain sell and convey unto the said LUKE HARRELL his heirs and assigns forever TWO SIXTH of an undivided tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the county of Martin and state afore containing by estimation forty three acres (43) be the same more or less bounded as follows: Beginning in the center of four oaks post oak white oak andlive oaks, John HARRELL's corner then No 25 W 55 pole to the center of two pines and a gum thense S 63 107 pole to a pine on the S side of Concho Swamp thence down the said swamp S 100 ? 38 pole to a gum in said swamp thence S 36 Et 25 pole to a gum in said swamp thence No 63 E 125 pole to the first station the above described land fell to said THOMAS RUFFIN by the death of sister, SARAH KING, and was willed to her, the said Sarah King by David King, her deceased husband to have and to hold the aforesaid land unto him the said LUKE HARRELL his heirs Exor adms and assigns foever and I the said THOMAS RUFFIN for myself my heirs Exors & Adminstrators and assings do hereby warrent & defend the property and title of the above granted land unto him the said LUKE HARRELL his heirs Exor adms and assings.
