Greenville, Veal Papers This indenture made this 24th day of Feb'y in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & twelve between Richard Veal & Anna Veal his wife of the county of Bertie and state of North Carolina of the one part and Thomas VEAL of the same state and county of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Richard Veal & Anna his wife for an in consideration of he sum of two thousand dollars to them in had paid by the said Thomas VEAL before the sealing and delivering of these present, the Receipt where of is hereby acknowledge and the said Richard Veal and Anna, his wife with doth acquit and discharge the said Thomas Veal his, his heirs and assigns forever by these presents the said Richard Veal and Ann his wife have granted bargained sold Released and confirmed unto the said Thomas Veal his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the Unaroy [Runeroy] Marshes in the sate and county aforesaid containing by estimation ninety four acres be the same more or less Beginning at the center of plum tree & locust tree near Wm House line and Fannah Harrell's corner. along said line S64E 175 pole to Post Oak & Red Oak in Wm Johnston's line. Along his line No 32 pole to White oak. Then N45E 67 1/2 pol to post Then N57W 177 pole along Elebacks & Thompson's line to post on West side of a small Marsh in Wm House's line. Along Houses' line S30W 84 pole to 1st station. and also another tract lying in the Pinna Woods beginning at 2 white oaks & a pine in Benjamin Wimberly's line. Thence along S72W 44 pol to Red Oak Richard Veale & wife's corner Thence along Rich'd Veals N18W 48 pole to 3 Red Oak trees Joel Cooper & Richard Veale's corner. Thence N72E 13 pole to Joel Cooper's corner to a pine or oak Thence N18W 49 pole to pine or oak Rich'd Veale line then along said Thence N72E 13 pole to pine or oak Rich' Veale's line Then S18E 49 pole to my corner. N72E 13 pole to 1st station containing by Estimation seventeen acres be the same more orl ess the above tracts or parcels of lands I the said Rich'd Veal and Anna my wife for the consideration above mentioned hath bargained and sold to the said Thomas Veal his heirs and assigns forever and by these presents do bind ourselves our heirs, executors & administrators and assigns forever to warrant and defend the rite and title of the said lands to the said Thomas Veal him his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof the said Richard Veal and Anna his wife hath here unto set our hands and seals the day and year above written. Richard Veal (seal) Anney Veal (seal) [looks like their actual signatures] Signed, sealed and delivered in the presents of us witnesses John Ruffin James Ruffin May term 1812 This deed from Richard Veale & Anney his wife to Thomas Veale was proved in open court by the oath of John Ruffin one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and it being represented to the Cout that Anney the wife of the said Richard cannot travel to our said Court to be prively examined as to her free consent in executing the said deed it is ordered that a Commission issue it. In pursuance of the annexed commission to us directed we have caused Anney Veal to come before us on the 22nd of May have separately and apart from her husband, Richard Veal, examined her touching her free consent in executing the said deed of conveyance who says that she executed the same freely and of her own accord, without either fear or compulsion of her husband, the said Richard given under our hand this 22nd day of May 1812. Johnston JP August Term 1812 This deed which was proved at the last term was returned to the present term with the private examination of Anney Veale endorsed thereon by Joseph Jordan & William W. Johnston, Equires. two of the persons named in the annexed commission whereupon it is ordered that the said deed, examination & commission be registeres. Sol Cherry. Nov 14, 1783) The division of land took place on Apr 15, 1800 as both Anna, and her sister, Fannah (Fanny), were minors at their father's death. Fannah married Gabriel Harrell.
