Witness that the said Jas. Ward for & in consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars in hand paid by the said George Cowen the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath granted sold & conveyed & by these presents doth grant sell & convey unto him the said George Cowen his heirs & assigns forever one tract or parcel of land containing about one Hundred Acres Be the Same more or less being the land on which George Cowen Sen now resides lying on the west side of the Windsor road, adjoining the lands of George Wynns, Alsey Cowen & William Watford & others, together with the plantation and all its appertanences, the same to have & to hold free of all incumbrances being my right only of said land & plantation which I have acquired in virtue of a purchase made by the Sherif of said county of Bertie & which a reference to the records of the court will more fully demonstrate all of which right & title I convey to said Cowen for ever & to the faithful performance of which I hereby bind my heirs & assigns in testimony whereof I hereby subscribe my name on the day & date above mentioned.
