This indenture made and entered into this 10 day of Feby
1841 between Whitmel B. Ruffin of the County of Bertie in
the State of North Carolina of the first part and John
Ruffin of the County and State aforesaid of the second
part.

Witnesseth that the said Whitmel B. Ruffin for and in
consideration of the sum of Fifteen hundred dollars
($1500) to him in hand by the said John Ruffin the
receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath bargained
and sold and by these presents doth bargain, sell and
release unto the said John Ruffin his heirs and assigns,
forever, all his titles and interest in and to any lands
lying and being in the county of Bertie in the State of
North Carolina which descended to the said Whitmel B.
Ruffin as one of the heirs at law of the late Thomas
Ruffin being and undivided interest in that portion of
the lands of said Thomas purchased by him after the date
of his last will and testament.

To have and to hold the said bargained premises together
with the appurtenances and in and singular the rights and
privileges to it appertaining as in anywise belonging
to him, the said John Ruffin, his heirs and assigns to
his and their only property use and benefit and behalf.
And the said Whitmel B. Ruffin doth hereby for himself,
his heirs, executors and administrators, warrant and
defend the above bargained premises to wit one fifth
(1/5) of the land purchased by the said Thomas Ruffin
subsequent to the date of his last will and testament, to
him the said John Ruffin, his heirs and assigns against
all persons claiming under, through, and by him; and
against the lawful claim of each and every person
whatsoever. 

In Testimony whereof, the said Whitmel B. Ruffin hath
hereunto set hand and affixed his seal the day and year
above written.

This deed from W.H. (an error, should be B) Ruffin to
John Ruffin was proved in open court by the oath of H.H.
Hardy one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and
ordered to be registered.  Jon T. Tayloe, Clk Registered
April 13, 1841
