JOHN RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN WILL Northampton County, NC Will Book 1, page 316 I, JOHN RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN of Northampton County in the Province of North Carolina being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory and calling to mind that it is appointed once for all men to die, therefore I make this to be my last will and testament and bequeath my soul to God that gave it me and my body to be decently buried by my executiors hereafter named and all my worldly goods I bestow as followith, that is to say. Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife MILISENT RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN the plantation where Samuel Bason now lives, proved that she gives up her rights and dowery the plantation where I now live I only I (sic)leave her the use of the said plantation during her the time of Samuel Bason holding that possession or terms of his: his lease.(sic) Also I give unto my said wife my roan mare called Jenny and six cows and calves, six likely ewes, three sows and three pigs and twenty one shoats, forty barrels of sound good corn and her choice of my feather beds her side saddle and bridle all my pewter all the case knives and forks tow small iron pots one frying pan, one weeding how (HOE?)three sides of leather one chest one box and ...?all my chairs one heakel one safe and all my wooden ware and all flax wool and cotton one... hoe. I also leave her the use of all my negroes that I am possissed with, for the term of five years and after the above term I still continue the use and labor of my negro woman called Abbigale til my son SAMUEL RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN arrives to the age of twenty one years and after he arrives to the above age she and her increase to be equally divided between my three children, SAMUEL RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN, ELIZABETH and OLIVIA RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN and without my wife must keep all my children during the time of her holding my negroes in possession clear of any charge being brought agaainst the estate. Item: I give unto my son SAMUEL RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN the plantation and lands therewith belongin whereon I now live also my negro man called Jim, and my negro child called Richard to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give unto my daughter ELIZABETH RUFFIN ALIAS O'QUINN one negro girl called Hannah and forty pounds current money of this State to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give unto my daughter OLIVIA RUFFIN ALIAS O'Quinn one negro boy called Charles and forty pounds current money of this State to her and her heirs forever. Item: All the remaining part of my estate heretofore not given away to be sold by my executors and the money arrising therefrom after my just debts is paid the one half to my son SAMUEL and the remainder to be equally divided between my two daughters above named. I nominate and appoint my two friends William Ruffin Jun. and Rich'd Veal Executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal, this 31st October 1778.
