Bertie County NC Miscellaneous - Indenture James EVERS to Thomas REASONS - 1756 Contributed to USGenWeb Archives by: LEF45@aol.com On Tuesday ,the twenty-seventh day of April in the year of our Lord, seventeen hundred and fifty six, during the reign of George 11 ,king of Great Britian and Ireland ,one Elizabeth EVERS appeared before John Harrell, the clerk of court .Bertie County,Colony of North Carolina, and signed and INDENTURE binding her orphaned son James EVERS ,ABOUT THE AGE OF TEN YEARS, TO Thomas Reasons of Bertie County.Mr. Reasons was given charge of the boy until he reached the age of twenty -one and agreed to care for him ,teach him to read and write and to instruct him in the art of a cordwainer [shoemaker] .The document was witnessed by Benjamin Wynns and J. Hardy Harrell.
