Edward Wooten, the new rector of the Episcopal Church, arrived here last Friday evening by the train from Charlotte with his family, from their former home in Lewiston, Bertie county. They were met at the depot and carried to their new home the place on Davie Avenue which Mr. Wooten recently purchased of Mr. H.A. Bost. The house had already been comfortably furnished by the Young Ladies’ Society of Trinity church, and the larder supplies with two or three weeks’ provisions, so the new occupants found nothing to do except go to house – keeping, having none of the trouble or expense of preparation. The new rector and his wife expressed themselves as deeply sensible of the thoughtfulness and kindness of his new charge as exhibited in the preparation which had been made for their reception. We welcome Mr. Wooten and his family to Statesville and trust they will find it an agreeable place of residence. Mr. Wooten commenced his ministerial duties Sunday, preaching acceptably to full congregations morning and evening. Transcribed and submitted to the Bertie County Archives by: Marianne Nichols Ordway
