DR. ALEX W. MEBANE was called to the chair, and L. S. WEBB, appointed Secretary. The object of the meeting was explained in a most appropriate manner by the Chairman. Eloquent and impressive speeches were made by. WM. W. CHERRY, JAS. ALLEN, DAVID OUTLAW, LEWIS BOND and others. They were in the spirit called for by the occasion, cool and temperate, but firm and decided. MR. CHERRY introduced the following resolutions, to wit: Resolved: That a committee of five persons be appointed by the Chairman of this meeting to draw up a preamble and resolution to be submitted to the consideration of an adjourned meeting to be held in the Courthouse on the second Monday of February Court, and that in the meanwhile public notice be given of said meeting in every district of this County. The resolution was adapted, and the following gentlemen appointed as said committee: WM. W. CHERRY, JAMES ALLEN, CULLIN COPEHEART, DR. JOHN HAYWOOD, and DAVID OUTLAW. The following resolutions were submitted by JAMES ALLEN, ESQ.: Resolved: That a committee of 50 be appointed by the Chair, to digest a plan for calling a convention of the People of North Carolina on the subject of Abolition movements in the non slave-holding States in regard to slavery, and that they make report to the adjourned meeting to be held in February next.
