The Standard of Raleigh, Jan. 21, 1863
                NOTICE
Was taken up and committed to Jail of Randolph County, North Carolina, on the 
9th day of October 1862, a runaway slave, who says his name is HENCE, aqnd 
that he belongs to JOHN THOMAS MEBANE of Bertie County, N.C.  The said slave 
is black, five feet six incfhes high, and appears to be about twenty-one years 
old. The owner is requested to come forward, prove property, pay all charges 
and take him away, or he will be disposed as the law allows.
