ALBERTA NEWSOME BAKER

   COURTLAND – A funeral service for Mrs. Albert Newsome Baker was conducted at 
2 p.m. Saturday in Sandy Run Baptist Church, Roxobel, N.C. by the Rev. John R. 
Blanchard, assisted by the Rev. Harold Lewis. Burial was in the family cemetery 
with Garrett Funeral Home in charge.

   Pallbearers were Walter Baker, Samuel Baker, Walter J. Newsoms, William T. 
Newsoms, Donald baker and Jimmie Baker.

   Mrs. Baker, 96, died Thursday at 2:45 a.m. in the home of a daughter, Mrs. 
Elizabeth B. Vick.

   A native of Bertie County, she lived in the Courtland area more than six 
years. She was a daughter of David and Laura Bryant Newsome and the widow of 
Junius Gaston Baker.

    Surviving are three sons, William J. Baker, Rocky Mount, N.C., Roy N. Baker, 
Kelford, N.C. and David B. Baker, Marietta, Ga.; five daughters, Icie B. Baker 
and Elizabeth B. Vick, Courtland, Edna B. Burhett, Ahoskie, N.C., Mary B. White, 
Aulander, N.C. and Ruth Oakey, Indian Hood, Md.; one brother, W.W. Newsome, 
Suffolk; 30 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren and eight great-great 
grandchildren.
