I also found copies of these in the microfilm at the Lawrence Memorial Library, Windsor, NC. I believe they were in the Windsor Advance right after the Sept 16, 1939 accident that took their lives. Claudia Harrell Williams FATHER AND SON KILLED IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENT SATURDAY Claude Winstead Broglin and 7-year old Son Killed at Connaritsa A father and his seven year old son were killed at Connaritsa Saturday morning when the automobile they were riding in was struck broadside by a Camp Manufacturing Company truck driven by Elred Summers, colored. Claude Winstead Broglin, 33, died in the Windsor hospital three hours after the collision. The little boy, Claude Jr., was killed instantly. Mrs. Broglin and their little daughter, Clara, were only slightly injured. The wreck apparently was caused when Broglin, who was driving west on a dirt road, pulled into the highway ahead of the truck which was driving north. Neither truck nor auto was overturned although the car was badly battered by the impact. The two deaths brought to three Bertie county's 1939 highway fatalities toll. This represents an improvement over the 1938 record, when 13 deaths were recorded. The previous fatality for 1939 was the death of the Colerain police chief who was killed in a collision on Highway 17 the night of the tornado.
