I, P. 3 GEORGE WASHINGTON COOKE SEDLEY – George Washington Cooke, 81, died Tuesday in Baltimore after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Eunice Hall Cooke and the son of James Monroe and Mrs. Jane Evans Cooke. He was a member of Sedley Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. W.P. Newsome of Sedley, Mrs. Annie Damn of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. Ralph Asbell of Suffolk; three sons, C.W. Cooke of Baltimore, James M. Cooke and William H. Cooke of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Irvin Cook of Roxobell, N.C.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. A funeral service was held Friday at 2 p.m. in W.J.M. Holland and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. C.L. Gatling, pastor, of Sedley Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery in Sedley. Pallbearers were Herbert Hancock, Howard Hancock, H.H. Chappell, William Wade, Elton McClenny, Oliver Newsome, John Bailey and Raymond Porter. NOTE: B. Bertie Co., N.C.
