The Rev. Lonnie Sasser of Murfreesboro officiated. Burial was in the Murfreesboro Cemetery. (Amendment to this news paper by: his granddaughter, Barbara Joan Nichols-Mulder) James Thomas was buried in Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie, North Carolina. A member of Early€s Baptist Church, Mr. Cooke was born in Bertie County, November 1, 1872, a son of the late Benjamin and Eliza Harrell-Cooke, of Bertie County. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Cora Cooke, are 5 daughters, Mrs. Grace Harrell, Mrs. W.E. Coleson, Mrs. Ross Nichols, Mrs. C. H. Hill, and Mrs. Woodrow Vinson, all of Ahoskie; one sister, Mrs. Maggie Raiford of Aulander; and one brother Abner Cooke of Kelford. Pallbearers were M. A. Johnson, J. B. Early, J. C. Lassiter, L. P. Britton, C. E. Perry and Elliott Harrell. Additional Comments: Joe told me when granddaddy Cooke was buried it had been raining and the hurst got in the ditch going into the Ahoskie Cemetery. Bud Harmon was driving by and pulled the hurst out of the ditch.
