Ellis and a resident of Wakefield, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at her home. A native of Bertie County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late George Clay and Allie Myers Clay White. She was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church, a charter member and past president of the Wakefield Woman’s Club, a member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and a member of the General William Mahone Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She also did volunteer work with the Salvation Army in the area. Mrs. Ellis, a registered nurse, was a graduate of Lakeview Hospital and during her nursing career worked at Lakeview and Obici Hospitals. She also did private duty nursing in Wakefield and the surrounding area. Mrs. Ellis was second floor supervisor on North Wing of Obici Hospital when she retired. She is survived by a daughter, Sue Ellis Laine and son-in-law, Jimmy of Wakefield; two grandsons, Michael Edward Laine of North Garden, Va. and Steven Edward Laine of Wakefield. She is also survived by a sister, Helen C. Monahan of Suffolk; one niece, Judy H. Pierce; six nephews, Frank Monahan, Graham Harrell, Steve, Jerry, Danny and Jimmy Johnson and their families. Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys C. Harrell; a half-sister, Nell W. Johnson; two brothers, George E. Clay and Shelby H. Clay. She is also survived by her aides and companions, Mrs. Gracie Bailey, Mrs. Marie Ellis, Mrs. Virginia Hammond, Mrs. Barbara Miller, Mrs. Gladys Stringfield and Mrs. Doris Urquhart. The Rev. C. Randolph Duncan and Jerry W. Edwards Jr. will hold a funeral service on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at 11 a.m. in Wakefield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Sue and Jimmy Laine, 37023 Old Wakefield Road, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield United Methodist Church, P.O.
