A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Great Wynn’s Grove Baptist Church by Bishop Thomas E. Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery. FANNIE MAE WIGGINS GREEN Fannie Mae Wiggins Green passed away at Calvary Hospital in New York, NY. Fannie was born January 6, 1943 to the late Henry and Josephine Wiggins. She attended Bertie County Schools. Later she married the love of her life of 43 years, Johnnie Wilson Green Sr. To this union seven children were born, She leaves to mourn, a wonderful husband, Johnnie Wilson Green Sr., four daughters, Linder, Kathy, Debra all of Bronx, NY and Brinder of Lewiston; three sons, Johnnie Jr., Ronnie and Donnie all of the Bronx, five sisters, Vurtis Spruill, Josephine Walton, Bettie Green, Evelena Pugh, all of Lewiston, and Berthina Early of the Bronx, three brothers, Henry and Haywood Wiggins of Lewiston and William McKinley Thompson of Philadelphia, PA., twenty-three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Portsmouth on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Milton R. Blount officiating. HARRELL AHOSKIE - William Teosa Harrell, 84, of Chet Rogerson Road, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 in Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. Mr. Harrell was born in Bertie County and was a member of Union Baptist Church. He was retired as a machine operator with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Survivors include his wife, Mary Pierce Harrell; a daughter, Linda H. Brown of Askewville; sons, Billy Harrell and John Harrell of Ahoskie; a sister, Margaret Chadwick of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Crystal Harrell, Zeek Williams, Christie Brown, and David Brown and a great- granddaughter, Elizabeth Edwards. A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2006 at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Curtis Pixler officiating. Burial followed in Highland Memorial Gardens. WHITE MERRY HILL - Murriel McCoy "Coy" White, 48, of the 100 block of Chapel Bridge Lane, died February 4, 2006 at his home in Merry Hill. He was born July 29, 1957 to Herman and Janie White in Bertie County, N.C. Coy, as he was called, was employed with Stanley Thompson for eight years. Coy was a cheerful man who loved his family and was a true friend. He will be greatly missed. His memories will be cherished by his wife of three years, Emma Mae White, his son Jarvis Perry of West Hyattsville, MD, his mother Janie Mae White of Norfolk, Va, three brothers, Herman and Henry White, both of Norfolk, and Rodney White of Virginia Beach, Va., and Etta Thorne of Fredericksburg, Va., seven nephews, three nieces as well as a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Herman White and his brother Steven Van White. A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2006 in Peterson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Merry Hill with Pastor Ricky Williams officiating. MARY E. WATFORD COLERAIN - Mary E. Watford, 90, a native of Bertie County, died February 5, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. She was the widow of James Watford. She was born on May 3, 1915 in Bertie County to the late Charles and Maude Mizelle Roulhac. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Mrs. Watford was a member of Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was in the Senior Choir and a Missionary. MITCHELLSVILLE, MD - Joseph William Bazemore Sr., 62, a native of Bertie County, died February 5, 2006 in Mitchville. Vann High School and attended Elizabeth State University for two years. He was a U. S. Army veteran for eight years. Survivors include his wife, Freddie Bazemore of the home; a son, Joseph Bazemore Jr.; three daughters, Valdase, Tioga and Kia; a brother, John H. Bazemore Jr. of Beauford, S.C.; two sisters, Willie Garrett Bazemore and Lenora Powell, both of Windsor; and seven grandchildren. CHARLIE M. WALTON JR PORTSMOUTH - Charlie M. "Mack" Walton Jr., 61, of the 500 block of Berkshire Road, died February 6, 2006 at home. Born in Bertie County, North Carolina, he was employed for four years as a machine operator at Kempsville Building Materials. He was a member of Cannan Baptist Church, New York, NY. Survivors include his wife, Angela V Walton of Portsmouth; a daughter whom he raised, Chaya Walton of Biloxi, Miss.; two sons, Gary Walton (LaTonya) of Memphis, TN an Jason Walton of Bronx, NY; a sister, Phyllis W. Harrison of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren; one uncle; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in- laws, and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Walton; father, Charlie Walton Sr.; and a daughter, Shannon Walton. Mrs Phelps was born on March 29, 1912 to the late Levy and Virginia Davis Byrum. She was also predeceased by her son J. B. Phelps. A graveside graveside funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Michael Bailey. Walker Funeral Home is in charge. Mrs. Phelps was a retired seamstress. Survivors include granddaughters Beverly Alderman of Tarboro, NC and Meloldy Davis of Pinetops, NC and great grandsons Christopher and James Alderman, both of Tarboro. VIOLA W. KEYS WINDSOR - Viola Ward Keys, 76, died February 7, 2006. She passed away peacefully at her home in the arms of her loving daughters. She was the daughter of Charlie Ward and Margaret Gilliam Ward, who preceded her in death. She joined Pleasant Oak Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 13 and remained a member until her death. She attended Elizabeth City State University. In 1953, she married Ivery Johnson Keys. She was predeceased by her husband and her brothers Napoleon and Vince. To cherish her memories are her two daughters Margaret Keys and Iris Callander of the home, three grandchildren, Cassandra Callander, Brittany Cory of the home and Derrick Callander of Houston, TX, tow great-grandchildren, Francesca and Camryn of the home, one aunt, Daisy Allen of Windsor; one sister-in-law, Josie Ward of Windsor, and a special caretaker and friend, Brandi Collier; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Rawls Sr., 81, a native of Bertie County, died February 7, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Bethany Baptist Church, Harrellsville, by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rawls Jr. and Corbett Rawls, both of Raleigh; three grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. GLADYS E. WATSON WINDSOR - Gladys Elizabeth. Watson, 65, died February 7, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was born February 19, 1940 to the late Henry Watson and Ruth Bunch in Windsor, NC, where she resided all of her life. At an early age she accepted Christ and joined the Mr. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful and caring member. She was united in marriage to the late Freeland S. Watson. The union was blessed with thirteen children, six of whom preceded her in death. Left to cherish her memories are her seven sons, Warren, Richard, Gary, Timmie, and Tito Watson of Windsor; Melvin Watson of Hobgood, NC and Antonio Watson of Fort Campbell, Ky.; her stepmother, Lillie Watson of Baltimore, Md., her four sisters, Virginia Watson of Windsor, Linda Scott and Fay Watson-Lee of Baltimore, and Patricia Waller of Pennsylvania, her two brothers Jimmie Bazemore of Atlantic City, NJ and Jerome Waller of Baltimore, Md., her nineteen grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. REBECCA HOCKADAY ROANOKE RAPIDS - Rebecca Conner Hockaday, 68, a native of Woodville, died February 8, 2006. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Rick Gaskins. Interment will be in Cedarwood Cemetery. Stroup of Hickory; one son, Barry Hockaday of Raleigh; two sisters, June Harrison of Windsor and Mildred Parker of Severn; and one granddaughter. ROBERT PEELE WINDSOR - Robert Peele, 75, a native of Windsor, died February 10, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. He was bron on November 30, 1930. Peele was an electrician in several states, worked at the Navy Base in Norfolk, Va, Coulbourn Lumber Company and Lea Lumber Company in Windsor. Survivors include his wife, Doris Peele of the home; sons, Jesse Peele of Windsor, John Peele of Windsor, Matthew Peele of Washington, DC, and Robert V. Peele of Hyattsville, MD; daughters, SSgt Savannah Barrett stationed in Kuwait, and Nancy Brown of Greenville; and seven grandchildren and his nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Idonia Peele, his sons, James Peel and William Peele, Jr. and two grandchildren, Natasha Peele and Anita Austin. ADAMS PORTSMOUTH, VA - Celia Wynn Adams, a native of Merry Hill, died February 11, 2006. She was the widow of Willard V. Adams. Born in Merry Hill, NC she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Wynn. She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Wynn Jr., Joe Wynn, James Wynn, and Herbert Wynn. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Pattie Cherry, Carrie Dickerson, Annie Wynn, Sophia Morris, Viola Moore and Dorothy Marshall. Survivors include her children, Harold Adams of Irvine, Calif., Willard Adams of Portsmouth, Kay Harper of Petersburg, Va., Teresa Robinson of Virginia Beach and Celia Clinton of Fairfax; and sisters, Thelma Wynn of Windsor, Mary Speight of Harrellsville, Janie Walker and Barbara Watson, both of Brooklyn, NY; a brother, Lemuel Wynn; six granddaughters; stepgrandson. EVELYN HARRELL COLERAIN - Evelyn Harrell, died February 16, 2006 at Albermarle Hospital, Elizabeth City. A funeral was conducted Monday at New Holley Grove Baptist Church, Colerain. JAMES W. MYERS CHESAPEAKE - James William Myers passed away very peacefully February 16, 2006, at Chesapeake General Hospital with his family surrounding his bedside. Bill was born in Colerain, NC, and was the son of the late Paul James and Icie Myers. After graduating from Mars Hill High School, Bill attended East Carolina College and received a bachelor of science degree in 1962. He moved to the South Norfolk community and for the next 15 years taught health and physical education at Truitt Junior High. He then joined the Oscar Smith High School faculty, where he taught and served as the athletic director until his retirement in 2004. He coached varsity basketball, baseball, track and junior varsity sports as well. In 1981, Bill coached the baseball team that was honored as the Southeastern District Champion. The gymnasium at Oscar Smith is names the J. William Myers Gymnasium, affectionately called the "Dollar Dome", after Bill’s nickname, "Dollar Bill". For 25 years, Bill served as the deputy commissioner and commissioner of the Tidewater Virginia Amateur Softball Association. In 1989, he was inducted into the TVASA Hall of Fame. In 1994, Bill was inducted into the Oscar Smith High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Survivors include his loving wife of 41 years, Ann White Myers; two daughters, Sherri-Lyn Whitfield and husband James and Kendal Hulce and husband Jeremy; and a grandson, Trenton James Whitfield. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, 1200 Chesapeake Ave. Dr. Louis A. Martin and brother-in-law, the Rev. Robert F. White Jr. will officiate. The interment will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. ROBERT JENKINS JR. AULANDER - Robert "Bobby" Henry Jenkins Jr., age 68, died at home on Sunday, February 19, 2006. Mr. Jenkins was a native of Bertie County and a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church. He was a dedicated farmer in both Bertie and Hertford counties. Mr. Jenkins will be remembered most for being a loving father and grandfather. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Vick Jenkins and his father, Robert Henry Jenkins Sr. Survivors include his daughter, Kim Jenkins and her husband, Greg, his son Bob Jenkins and his wife, Debbie, all of Aulander, NC; his sister, Margaret Dare Jenkins of Ahoskie, NC; and four grandchildren, Derek, Cody, Jordy and Logan Jenkins. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Jenkins Family Cemetery on Dunning Road in Aulander, NC with the Rev. Alan Mizelle officiating. VIVIAN E. TAYLOR MERRY HILL - Vivian Evans Taylor, 78, died February 21, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Willie B. Taylor. Ms. Taylor was the daughter of the late Rosie Etta Perry and Henry Grady Evans. He was born on March 29, 1961 in Bertie County to the late Celia Holley Warren and the late John B. Holley. He attended Bertie High School and later went to Job Corp. Holley of Merry Hill; and two grandchildren D’Marrion and D’Myia Taylor. ANNIE MAE TODD HOGGARD WINDSOR - Annie Mae Todd Hoggard, 93, a resident of Three Rivers Nursing Home, died Friday, February 24, 2006. She was born in Bertie County on May 31, 1912 to the late Thomas L. and Susie Floyd Todd and was predeceased by her husband, Kelly Edward Hoggard. Mrs. Hoggard retired from Belk’s Department Stroe and attended Siloam Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today (Feb 26) in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge. Survivors include her son Harry Hoggard of Huntersville, NC, her brother Edgar A. Todd of Windsor, her three grandchildren and her twelve great-grandchildren. DAVIS WINDSOR - Mr. Larry Wayne Davis, age 54, of Windsor, NC, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount, NC. Mr. Davis was born February 20, 1952 in Bertie County, NC. He was preceded in death by his father, Rupert Earl Davis and an infant brother. He was a truck driver for many years and had served his country in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his mother, Nancy Johnson Davis, of Windsor, NC; his brothers, Earl Davis of Burley, Idaho, Jerry Davis of Windsor, NC and Kenny Ray Davis of Buffalo Gap, Texas; also a sister, Judy Conner of Windsor; three nieces, four nephews and two grand nephews. Graveside services will be held, Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC with the Rev. J.N. Baggett officiating. RUFUS OUTLAW COLERAIN - Rufus Outlaw, 54, a native of Bertie County, died February 26, 2006. Outlaw was a member of Greater Wynn’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was a truck driver for Inner Spring Truck Line. Survivors include one daughter, Octavia Bullock of Greensboro; his mother, Mary Outlaw of Colerain; one brother, Larry D. Outlaw of Colerain; one sister, Lizzie Lloyd of Cofield; and one grandchild. ERVIN STANLEY COLERAIN - Ervin Stanley, 47, of the 100 block of Taylor Park Lane, died February 27, 2006. Mr. Stanley was a native of Bertie County. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Perry Stanley of Colerain; two sons, John Stanley and Nathaniel Stanley, both of Colerain; his mother, Rosa Stanley of Ahoskie; his father, William Stanley of Colerain; three brothers, Samuel Stanley of Newport News, Va., Douglas Stanley of Ahoskie and Keith Stanley of Newport News; three sisters, Shirley Mackey, Ecomi Stanley and Roslyn Stanley, all of Hampton; and three grandchildren. MARY W. MITCHELL WINDSOR - Mary W. Mitchell, 89, of the 900 block of Middle Track Road, died February 28, 2006 at Martin General Hospital, Williamston. She was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Watson, was born November 9, 1916 in Bertie County, NC. Mary grew up attending Cedar Landing Missionary Baptist Church, later transferring to Peterson Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In 1937, she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Milbert Mitchell. This union brought forth seven daughters and four sons. One February 28, 2006 God quietly called Mary home. She is preceded in death by her son Richard Mitchell. She is survived by her children, Annie Harris, Thelma Tate, Lloyd Mitchell, and Christine Cherry all of Windsor, Mary Squires and Germain Mitchell both of Burgaw, NC. Alice Davis and Rossa Davis, both of Greenville, William Mitchell of Irvington, NJ, and Otis Mitchell of Kenosha, WI. She is survived by her brother James Watson of Norfolk, Va., fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, in-laws Mary Clay of Windsor, Emma Turner of Brooklyn, NY, and Alice Williams of Baltimore, Md., as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Peterson Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Zachariah Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Mary Watson Mitchell Family Cemetery in Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home of Windsor was in charge of the arrangements.
