Bertie COUNTY NC Obits John Gaskins File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Jvosper489@cs.com http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie/obits/gaskins.txt From the Biblical Recorder of Raleigh, NC September 16, 1858. (The Biblical Recorder was a Baptist publication and is on film at the NC Baptist Archives at the Reynolds Library at Wake Forest University at Winston-Salem, NC) DEATHS Died at his residence in Bertie County, N.C., on Friday the 27th of August, 1858, Mr. John Gaskins, in the 79th year of his age. Mr. Gaskins was for several years a zealous and useful member of the Baptist church worshiping at Capehearts. And it may truly said of him, that he was a good man, in whom there was no guile. The writer of this brief notice knew him well, and can testify to his many excellent qualities of heart. As a neighbor, he was social and obliging; as a husband and father he was kind, loving, and sought for opportunities to please, and to make his family comfortable and happy. By his death an affectionate wife and children, and numerous friends and acquaintances are deprived, and feel their loss of him. But we mourn not as those that have no hope; for we feel assured that our loss is his eternal gain. We can, therefore, adopt the language of the poet, and say, Father, thou art gone to rest We will not weep for thee; For thou art now where oft on earth Thy spirit longed to be. Father, thou art gone to rest, Thy toils and cares are over; And sorrow, pain, and sufferings, now Shall ne'er distress thee more. ======================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
