H. G. HARRINGTON, PROMINENT ATTORNEY DIES IN NORFOLK HOTEL Mourning Friends Overflow the Church At Funeral Last Saturday Lewiston, Dec 1 -- Attorney H. G. Harrington died suddenly in Norfolk early Friday morning, November 27. He suffered a heart attack and died a few hours afterwards. Mr Harrington was born in Bertie County in 1891. He was a well known lawyer and business man, was a thirty-second degree Mason and a graduate of Wake Forest College. The county will keenly feel his loss. For a number of years he was manager of the Harrington Mfg. Co., at Lewiston, manufacturers of the Roanoke Peanut Pickers. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, at the Baptist Church with Masonic honors, conducted by the Rev. H. F. Brinson and the Rev. R. C. Goodchild. Interment followed in the Methodist Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lillian Nurney Harrington, and three sons, Harry, Stacy, and Horace, all of Lewiston; a number of brothers and sisters, and a host of friends throughout Bertie County. Attendance at the funeral services overflowed the church building and banks of beautiful floral offering from many friends, far and near over this section, covered casket and altar of the church, attesting the wide aquaintanceship his genial nature and prominent connections had made for him during his life. The bar of Bertie County, of which he was a prominent member, and county officials attended the funeral practically in a body. He was respected by all who knew him for his ability and accomplishments as a lawyer and a business leader. Straightforward in his dealings and progressive in his attitude, he was a leader and supporter of every worthwhile cause, both in his own community and in county and sectional affairs, where his counsel and advice were always heard with respect. With his brothers, he had built the Harrington Manufacturing Company into one of the leading implement companies in this section, their Roanoke peanut picker being used wherever peanuts are grown. As a lawyer, he had built up a large practice and had the confidence and respect of clients and the members of his profession alike. Above all his accomplishments, however, his geniality, the joviality and good fellowship of his nature which won for him and held for him a host of friends, stood out characteristically. A special memorial sevice in his honor will be held Monday at 10 o'clock during the session of General County Court. Resolutions of respect and esteem will be read. His family expected to be present at the.................(that is all I can read) File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie/obits/h/harringt2824gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/ncfiles/ File size: 3.3 Kb
