MRS. MATTHEWS DIES LAST NIGHT
Wife of E. D. Matthews Succumbs To Short Illness At Home on Carolina Highway.
Mrs. Tusie* Marion Matthews, wife of E. D. Matthews, died last night at 6 
o’clock at her home on the North Carolina highway just outside of the city, 
after a short illness.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Matthews is survived by three children, Earl, Melvin, 
and Virginia Matthews, all of this community; her mother, Mrs. Joe Mitchell, of 
Colerlan, N. C.; two sisters, Mrs. Elise Wallace and Mrs. Ida Womack of South 
Norfolk; a half-sister, Mrs. Annie Jernigan of Powellsville, N. C.; there half-
brothers, Henry Jernigan of Powellsville, N. C., and Jack and Dudley Jernigan of 
South Norfolk. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock 
at the grave near Powellsville, N. C. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. R. 
E. Brittle. The funeral procession will leave from the I. O. Hill and Company 
funeral home at 12:30 o’clock.
