Departed this life, on Wednesday the 4th of Sept. 1867, at her residence in
Hertford county, sister Julia Nowell, widow of the Reverend John Nowell.

For many years she has been a consistent member of the Baptist church at
Colerain [Bertie Co.]. She lived to see many of her dear kindred and friends
pass away, and to her surviving friends and kindred, death was unexpected, and
brought with it a sorrow not soon to be comforted.

To the large circle of friends, who knew and loved her, her memory will be ever
dear.

We admire the virtues of woman where peculiar circumstances present them
prominently before us.

But how often do we forget that those virtues are best tested by the manner in
which the ordinary domestic duties of life are discharged.

It was here the deceased displayed those virtues which gained for her the high
esteem of all who knew her, and make her loss to her relations and friends truly
irreparable.

Her sun has indeed gone down while it is yet day, but death to her, we sincerely
hope, was exceeding great gain.
