A resident of Henderson for most of her life, she and her husband also resided in Fuquay-Varina for a number of years. Mrs. McLemore was born in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late Thomas Cleveland Brown and Nancy Miller Brown. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Henderson. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Amos Leslie McLemore; a grandson, Claude Swanson Dodd, III; a son-in- law, David Thomas Ayscue, Jr., two sisters, Louise B. Fortune and Annie Mae B. White, and two brothers, Louis Ray Brown and Bennie Cline Brown. A devoted mother, she is survived by her children, Amos Leslie McLemore, Jr. and wife, Virginia of Rolesville, Agnes M. Dodd and husband, Swanson, of Henderson, Nancy M. Ayscue of Henderson, and Lena Kay Scarborough and husband, Lee of Virginia Beach, VA. Survivors also include: eight grandchildren, Amos L. McLemore, III and wife, Amy, of Wake Forest, Jonathan McLemore and wife, Barbara of Wake Forest, Richard Y. Dodd and wife, Emma of Charlotte, Rebekah V. Dodd of Raleigh, David T. Ayscue, III and wife, Joanie of Columbus, OH, Nancy M. Baker and husband, Thomas of Henderson, Samuel C. Scarborough and wife, Kathleen of Virginia Beach, VA, Elizabeth Kay Scarborough of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jeannette M. Dodd; granddaughter-in-law of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are 14 great-grandchildren, all very special to her, Jenna McLemore, Meredith, Ashley, Carrie, Mary Agnes, Claudia and Rebekah Dodd, Dave, Catherine and Megan Ayscue, Daniel and Sarah Baker, Adeline and Jacob Scarborough. Agnes was the oldest of nine children. Her surviving siblings are Sarah Penney of Greenville, Stanley W. Brown and wife, Lois of Columbia, SC, Ollie M. Brown of Ahoskie, and Shirley P. Brown and wife, Nita of Colerain. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. The family would especially like to thank the staff at Britthaven of Henderson for their devotion in the care of their loved one. Their kindness and tireless care during her stay there are greatly appreciated. A graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Henderson will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2005 by the Reverend Doctor Paul A. Baxley, pastor of First Baptist Church of Henderson. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service and at other times at the home of Agnes and Swanson Dodd.
