PITTMAN W.H. Pittman, 92, the last surviving Confederate soldier of Bertie County, died at his home in Aulander, Monday, October 14. Mr. Pittman was born in Southampton County on May 10, 1842, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mallory Pittman. He was twice married his first wife being Miss Temple Darden of Newsoms and his second wife Miss Mattie Cook of Aulander who survives him. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, John R. Pittman of Homersville, Ga., and Dr. Mallory A. Pittman of Wilson, N.C.; and by a number of nieces and nephews, two of his nephews being W.L. Beale and J.W. Beale of Franklin. Funeral services were held from the Aulander Baptist Church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. J.T. Draper assisted by Rev. Mr. Taylor. Interment was in the Aulander Cemetery.
