Wiggins, 90, of North Pointe of Mayodan, died Friday, August 21, 2009, at Wesley Long Hospital. A memorial service, followed by family visitation, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 24, at First Baptist Church of Madison. A World War II veteran, Cherry was born on May 4, 1919, in Bertie County, N.C., to the late Arthur and Nora Holder Wiggins. He was a retired government employee who served as a non commissioned officer throughout Europe during World War II. Cherry was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Laughbon Wiggins, and his previous wife, June Wiggins, as well as his son, Michael C. Wiggins. He is survived by daughter, Margaret Wiggins Eggleston and husband, Don, and grandchildren, Cherrianne R. Hooks (David), Dr. Mia R. Griggs (Jamie), and Major Joshua R. Richardson (Shannon), as well as 10 great- grandchildren. His toy poodle, Coco, was his constant companion. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Decatur St., Madison, NC 27025. The family offers a special thanks to the staff of North Pointe, Mayodan, and to Dr. Don Moore of Madison, N.C. Arrangements are made by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
