Will of Wineford Cowand** Recorded in Will Book G, Pages 339 In the name of God amen October 27th Day 1837 I wineford Cowand of Bertie County being week in body And Confined to my bed but of perfect Sound mind and memory And callen to mind the mortality of my body do make and ordane this my Last will & Testament Viz first I Recomaend my Soul to the hands of God Who give it first I give and bequeath to my Son Starkey Cowand one wallnut Table one feather Bed and furniture and one cow and calf after my Decease - + and one chest Secondly I give and bequeath to my Daughter Delily Cowand one feather bed and furniture one boefat and the Crockery weave belongs to it one woolen wheel and Cards one Table thirdley I give and bequeath to my Son Allsea Cowand one feather Bed and furniture Forthley I give and bequeath to my grand Daughtor pheby Cathrine Cowand Also my grand Son Robert Alford Cowand Also my grand Daughtor Nancy ann Cowand one feather bed and furniture betwean them after my Decase Fifthley I give and bequeath to my grand Son William G Coggen thirty Dollars in money to Remain in the hands of his uncel Starkey Cowand until he arives to the age of 21 years old if the Said William G Coggen Should Die before he arives to age of 21 years the above money mentioned money should blong to my grand Son James Wineford Coggen bu if the Said James Wineford Coggen Should Die before he arives to the age of 21 years then the Said money is to be Eaquely Deviided betwenn Starkey Cowand and phebe Cowand and Delily Cowand Sixtley I give and bequeath to my Son George Cowand Two Dollars in money after My Decase Seventhley I leave all the money I Have in hand at my Decase to be Eaqueley Divided between Starkey Cowand and phebe Cowand and Delley Cowand I anomonate Starkey Cowand to be Ecetor to my will the day and Date first above writen in witness where of I have here unto Set my hand and Seal her Wineford Cowand mark Asined and seled in presets of us Witnesseth Martin White Duiren White State of NoCarolina Bertie County Court Feby Term 1842 This Last Will and Testament of Winafred Cowand decd was proved in open Court by the oath of Martin White One of the Subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded Jon S Tayloe **Variant spelling of her first and last names not uncommon. Death could have occurred between 27 October 1837, the date that she wrote her will and and the date of the February 1842 Term of Court. More than likely, she died between the day after the date of the November 1841 Term of Court and the day before the February 1842 Term of Court.
