Benjamin Harrell of the State of North Carolina and County of Bertie being of sound and perfect mind and memory (Blessed be God) do this Thirteeth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and nine Make and ordain this my last will and Testament In manner following Viz First Item I give and bequeath to my Son George Harrell all the land and plantation which I bought of Edward Acree also all the Land I bought of Sewell Holland (known by the name of the pasture) and all my land joining thereto which I bought of My Brother Reuben Harrell and also part of a Tract which I bought of Wm Cotten beginning at Two fence Comer Thus between Hodges and the land I bought of Edwd Acree running thence a line of markd trees to Moses Pervis line in a branch near Wattom Swamp I give and bequeath all the Said Land to my son George Harrell to him his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath to my son Henry Harrell all the Land and plantation which I bought of Joel Harrell also a Tract of Land I bought of Wm Cotten beginging in Joel Jones Line thence running a straight course to Isaac Parkers line in Wattom Swamp then down the said swamp to Thomas Mintons line thence along his line to Joel Jones line thence along his line to the first station supposed to Contain Two hundred Acres to the same more or less I give all the said Land to my Son Henry Harrell him his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath to my Son Powell Harrell the land and plantation whereon I now live with all the land in the fork of the Swamp which is not yet given away provided that my son Powell Harrell shall pay to my son Henry Harrell the sum of two hundred Dollars as a compensation of his part of the said land and if my son Powell Harrell shall neglect or refuse to pay to my son Henry Harrell the aforsaid sum of Two hundred Dollars then as much of the above said land to be sold from my son Powell Harrell by my Executor as will raise the sum of Two hundred Dollars to be given to my son Henry Harrell but if my son Powell Harrell shall and do pay to my son Henry Harrell the sum of Two hundred Dollars as aforesaid then all the said land and plantation I give and bequeath to my son Powell Harrell his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Rachel Harrell one negro girl by the name of Hasty and negro boy named Lewis and negro Girl Called little Bette also one good feather Bed and furniture and Two Cows and Calves and one horse by the name of Roe Buck with Bridle and a Good saddle also the sum of one Hundred and fifty Dollars in cash to be raised out of my Estate by hir freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I Give and bequeath to my son George Harrell one negro Boy named Jupter and one named Jacob by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my son Henry Harrell one negro boy named Bob and one named Peter by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my son Powell Harrell one negro Girl named Lydda and one negro boy named Boson by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item My negro man Cary I give to be Equally Divided Between my two sons George Harrell and Henry Harrell by them freely to be possessed and Enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Celia Carney one negro Girl named Vina by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Winifred Carney one negro Boy by the name of Stephen by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item after the death of My Mother in Law Ann Powell my will and desire is that my negro woman by the name of Voilet and Priss both be sold by my Executors and the money to be equally divided between my three Sons George Harrell and Henry Harrell and Powell Harrell by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my Gran Son Right Harrell one negro Girl named Aimy by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Celia Carney Three negroes which is now in her possession named Patience & Thomas & Trece by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Winnifred Carney Two negroes which are now in her possession named Priss and Lucy by her truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I Lend to my Beloved wife Jemima Harrell one negro man named Cohen One negro woman named Betty and one negro Girl named Rose and one named Mary Dureing her widdowhood I also Lend to my Beloved wife Two work horses which she shall chuse out of my stock and Three Cows & Earlings her choice out of my stock and my rideing chair and harness and four Sows and pigs and four ewes and lambs with as much of my house hold and kitchen airniture as she shall chuse to keep Dureing her widdowhood. Item I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Jemimah Harrell the sum of fifty Dollars and Two young steers or heifers for Beef by her truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item After my wifes marriage or death I give and bequeath to my daughter Rachel Harrell My Rideing chair and harnness by her truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item All the remainder of my Estate which is not given away or lent I leave to be sold by my Executors and and after paying all my debts and the remainder to be equally divided between all my children and by them truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item and after the marriage or death of my wife my will and desire is that all the property lent to her which is not given away be sold by my Executors and the money thereby arising to be Equally divided amongst all my children shear and shear alike by them truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Item I give and bequeath to my Son Henry Harrell the next child which is born of my negroe woman Rose by him truly to be possessed and enjoyed which I think he ought to have to indemnity him for favour which he has done for me and still will have to do And there after his having the first child then the said negro Rose and all the other negroes which I lent to my wife be equally divided amongst all my children by them truly to be possessed and enjoyed forever Furthermore I do hereby make and ordain my son Henry Harrell my whole and sole Executor of this my last will and Testament in witness whereof I the said Benjamin Harrell have to this my last will and Testament set my hand and seal the day and year above written The words Rachel Harrell above the top line on this page was wrote before assigned Signd Sealled published and declared by the said Benjamin Harrell as his last will and Testament in presents of Jo Horne Benjamin (his ~ mark) Harrell (Seal) John H.
