Pg 199 Joshua Harrell’s will In name of God Amen. I, Joshua Harrell, farmer of the county of Bertie and State of North Carolina, being of sound and disposing mind, and memory, calling to mind the frailty and uncertainty of human life, and being desirous of setting my worldly affairs and directing how my little estate with which it has pleased God to bless me shall be disposed of after my decease while I have strength and capacity so to do, do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making null and void all other last wills and testaments by me heretofore made. And first, I commend my immortal being to Him who gave it, and my body to the earth, to be buried with little expense or show by him, hereafter named as my trustee. My worldly estate and all the property, real, personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed, as to which I shall entitled at the time of my deceased, I devise bequeath and dispose therefore in manner following to wit: 1st My will is that all my just debts and funeral charges shall by my executor hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my deceased as shall by him be found best. 2nd I, do hereby bequeath, devise, and give to my wife, Mary G. Harrell and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life all of my land and the dwelling and other houses situated thereon, said to be about ten acres of land, and bounded by the lands of Thos. L. Young and Mrs. M.S. Bishop, and all of my personal property or mixed property of which I am seized at the time of my decease; except one shotgun to be hereafter disposed of. My will is, after the death of my wife, Mary G. Harrell, I give to my executor, all my property both real and personal for the use and benefit of the Baptist Church at Sandy Run to be used and disposed of as he may think best. It is my earnest desire and will that the church should receive five dollars per year until the whole of the estate is exhausted. I hereby give , devise and bequeath to Daniel W. Parker, my shot gun, known as “Daniel Webster” to be for his sole use, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns forever. And lastly, I do nominate and appoint my friend, George Bishop, to be the executor of this my last will and testament.
