Imprimis -- I give demise and bequeath unto my loving son WHITMELL HILL six negros (viz.) Bausin (?), Neptune, Quash (?), Peter, Polibius and Old Bess, to him his heirs and assigns forever. I likewise give bequeath and demise my son WHITMELL HILL the Plantation whereon I now live with the land thereunto belonging known by the name of Hindsons Folly, and seven hundred acres of land lying on the East side of the above land, in Cashy Swamp. Each of them to him his heirs and assigns forever likewise an equal part of my money in trade after paying all my just debts. Item -- I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, ELIZABETH HILL, four negros (viz.) Chloe, Hamlet, Phillis & Young Jack to her, her heirs and assigns forever, likewise an equal part of my money in trade after paying all my just debts. Item -- I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, MARY HILL, four negros (viz.) Phirriby, Inusha, Merear & Morch, to her, her heirs and assigns forever, likewise and equal part of my money in trade after paying all my just debts. Item -- I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, WINNIFRED HILL, four negros (viz.) Penney, Patt, Ceaser and Dorsy to her, her heirs and assigns forever, likewise an equal part of my money in trade after all my just debts is paid. Item -- I give and bequeath to my loving daughter, SARAH HILL, four negros (viz.) Mars, Venus, Jannsy and George, to her, her heirs and assigns forever, likewise an equal part of my money in trade after paying all my just debts. Item -- I give and bequeath to my loving son, HARRY HILL, four negros (viz.) Hope, Rachel, Little Bess and Boatswain, them and their increase to him and his heirs and assigns forever. I likewise give and bequeath unto my son, HARRY HILL, the Plantation whereon GARRARD VAN UPSTALL lived with all the land thereunto belonging lying near Mr. HOBSONS lands and another tract of land lying in Cashy Swamp containing about five hundred acres, beginning at a large pine in MICHAEL THOMAS' line and running up the swamp for the complements it being part of seven hundred acres out of which I have sold two hundred acres to THOMAS HOULDER joining his own land. I likewise give unto my son, HARRY HILL, all my lands in Roquis Islands & pocoson joining the Tuskarora Indian Land containing about a thousand acres, more or less, to him, his heirs and assigns forever. I likewise give to my son HARRY HILL a dozen of leather bottomed chairs, one walnut desk and book case, one dozen large silver spoons, one feather bed and furniture, and an equal part of my money in trade after paying all my just debts. Item -- I give and bequeath to the child my wife now goes with, if a son, two tracts of land in Granville County lying on Bennett's Creek, one containing three hundred acres, the other six hundred and forty acres, to him, his heirs and assigns forever, and two hundred pounds to be raised out of the net proceeds of the sale of my third part of the Schooner Martha, but if the third part of the said Schooner Martha does not near that then what is wanted of that sum to be raised out of the money I have in trade and likewise an equal part of the money I have in trade after this sum of two hundred pounds is taken out and all my just debts are paid, and likewise one negro man named Tom, to him, his heirs and assigns forever, but in case the said child should be a daughter, then I give unto the said child two hundred pounds to be raised as aforesaid and to be paid out by my Exors. hereinafter named in purchasing young negros as soon as they can be bought at a reasonable price, and likewise an equal part of my money in trade after the aforesaid sum of two hundred pounds is taken out & my just debts paid, to her, his [her] heirs and assigns forever, and the two tracts of land before mentioned lying in Granville County, I give unto my son HARRY HILL, his heirs and assigns forever, but in case my son HARRY HILL dies before he comes to lawfull age or marries then all the lands, negros &c bequeathed unto him (Except the lands whereon GARRARD VAN UPSTALL lived near FRANCIS HOBSONS) to be equally divided between my four daughters, ELIZ. HILL, MARY HILL, WINIFRED HILL, SARAH HILL and the child my wife now goes with, share & share alike, to them & their heirs and assigns forever, and the track of land excepted being that whereon GARRARD VAN UPSTALL lived I give unto my son WHITMELL HILL, his heirs and assigns forever. Item -- I give and bequeath unto my four daughters, ELIZABETH, MARY, WINIFRED and SARAH HILL and the child my wife now goes with, each of them one feather bed and furniture. Item -- I give and bequeath to my Exors. hereinafter named all my lands in Granville County that is not herein before mentioned to by them sold & conveyed in fee simple, and the money arising from the sale thereof to be by them applied towards paying & discharging my just debts, and the overplus if any to be equally divided between my four youngest children to be paid out in educating them and my will is that my son HARRY and the other youngest children be brought up and educated in the best manner their estates will afford. Item -- I lend unto my loving wife, MARTHA HILL, three negros (viz.) Old Jack, Hector (or Hestor) and Peter, during her natural life. Likewise all my stock of horses (except a Roan Horse I give to my daughter Elizabeth) meat cattle, hogs & sheep, during her natural life, and as long as she remains my widow. I lend her the following negros for the soport (support) of my children (viz.) Old Bess, Young Bess, Hope, Rachel, Young Jack, Morah, Bauseis, Neptune, and all my household furniture but in case she marries the eight last mentioned negros to be taken out of her possession by the Exors. and likewise my children that may be then with her and the negros aforesaid to be imployed [employed] for the use of them they are given so by virtue of this Will and case any of my children should die before they come to lawfull age or marry (except my son, HARRY HILL), the deceased child's or children's estate or estates to be equally divided between the surviving children and their heirs and assigns, share and share alike. Item -- It is my will and desire that all my Uropian [European] and West Indies Gods [Goods?] and all my comodities and goods of every kind belonging to my trading stock be sold by my Exors. hereinafter named as they shall think propper so as to make _______ most advantage by them for my children hereinbefore named. Item -- It is my will and desire that my Exors. hereinafter named make and acknowledge to THOMAS HOULDER a deed of sale for two hundred acres of land more or less it being the upur (???) end & part of a track that is hereinbefore mentioned to my son HARRY HILL lying in Cashy Swamp, joining this Holder's own line. Item -- Whereas WILLIAM WILLIAMS & myself have taken up three tracks of land lying in Roquist Islands & pocoson joining the Tuskarora Line, and no division is yet made nor deeds issued out the Earl Granville's Office for the said lands, which deeds when issued will be in my name, my will & desire therefore is that my son WHITMELL HILL give a deed of sale to the said Wm. WILLIAMS for the one-half of these three tracts of land on his paying one-half of all the expenses of taking up of said lands in which said deed my son WHITMELL HILL is only to warrant the said land from his heirs, Exors or Admn. or any purson claiming from by or under him or them. Lastly, I nominate constitute and appoint my loving wife, MARTHA HILL, my loving son WHITMELL HILL and my well beloved friends THOMAS WHITMELL, WILLIAM GRAY & WILLIAM WILLIAMS Exor. & Exors. to this my Last Will & Testament, hereby revoking & disannulling all others heretofor by me made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and affixed my Seal the 12th day of June 1762. Signed Sealed Published and Declared by the said JOHN HILL to be his Jn.
