In the name of God, Amen, the 22nd Day of August
1782~ of the County of Bertie and the State of North
Carolina being sick and afflicted with bodily pain
but of sound and perfect mind and memory (Thanks be
to God), but calling to mind the mortality of man
kind and knowing it is appointed for all men once to
die, do make and ordain this my last will and
testament and do give demise and dispose of my
estate in the following manner to wit;

Item I give bequeath into my half Brother Arthur
Jernigan, his heirs and assigns forever, Ten head of
black Cattle, a set of silver, shoe, knee and stock
buckles, my riding saddle.

Item, I give bequeath unto my half Sister RACHEL
Jernigan, her heirs and assigns forever, one bay
mare.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my sister, ELIZABETH
BOND, her heirs and assigns forever, all my land and
plantation lying in the said County and on the
RUNEROY Marsh.

I also give unto my said sister, Elizabeth Bond all
my Negroes and chattels that have not been hereto
given in legacy and ordain my brother-in-law, Thomas
Bond, Noah Thompson and Noah Hinton Executors, to
this my last Will & Testament and I do hereby
utterly disallow, revoke and deny all other wills,
testaments or bequeath hereto or by one made in
witness hereof the said John hath Hereunto set my
hand & seal the Day and Year above written.

the said John Hinton to be his last Will & Testament
in presence of us

The last Will & testament of John Hinton Dec. was
proved in Open Court in due form of law by the oath
of Jesse Averet and Shadrack Hinton, two of the
subscribing witnesses and ordered to be recorded.
