All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by JGH900@aol.com Jim Holder http://www.usgwarchives.net/nc/bertie.htm Book A, Pages 4-6 Will of Thomas Holder Dated January 19th, 1773 Probated May Term 1774 "In the Name of God Amen, January 19th, 1773, I, THOMAS HOLDER, of the province of North Carolina and County of Bertie, being weak in body but perfect and sound memory, thanks be given to God for it, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say principally & first of all I recommend my soul in to the hands of God who gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall recover the same be the mighty power of God and as to touching what worldly estate it hath pleased God to possess me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form- Imprimis - I give and bequesth unto my youngest son ELISHA HOULDER [HOLDER] the plantation whereon I live (His mother having her thirds thirds therein therein [yes, that's the way it is written] and one house which she shall choose, this lifetime and afterwards to inure to the said Elisha) containing two hundred and twenty-five acres bounded by Watering Hole Branch and JAMES WILLIAMS line and joining BAKERS line at the head and lying on the No. side of Cashy Swamp where is my still to him the said Elisha his heirs and assigns forever. Item -- I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH HOLDER one tract of land containing one hundred fifty acres beginning at a gum in in the mouth of Watering Hole Branch running up the branch to HERBERT PRITCHARTS line and binding by LOVINERS line to Cashy Swamp and thence to the first station to her the said Elizabeth her heirs and assigns forever. Item - I lend to SUSANNAH HOLDER my beloved wife one bed, one pott, eight head of hoggs, two cows and calves during her life and after her decease to be equally divided between Elisha and Elizabeth Holder equally to be divided and all my household goods and effects and all my stock of cattle, hams, hogs and sheep and my estate wither down and without to be equally and severally divided between them the said Elisha and Elizabeth their heirs and assigns forever. Item - I give and bequeath to my two eldest sons JOHN [HOLDER] and THOMAS [HOLDER] one shilling sterling money a piece to them and their heirs and assigns forever. Item - Likewise constitute and appoint my two eldest sons John and Thomas Houlder to be my sole Executors of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disannul revoke and disallow all and every former Wills, Testaments and Executors by me in any wise before named or willed & bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and and none other to be my Last Will and Testament.
