Will of Elisha Holder
Dated July 1, 1799
Probated November Term 1807
Book F, Pages 57-59

"In the name of God Amen, the first day of July in
the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
ninety nine. I ELISHA HOLDER diss'n [?] in Bertie
County and State of North Carolina being sick and
weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks
be to Allmighty God for the same and knowing that it
is appointed for all men once to die do make and
ordain this my last will and testament that is to
say Principally and first of all, I give and
recommend my soul into the hands of Allmighty God
that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to
be buried in a decent Christian like manner at the
discretion of my executors, nothing doubting but at
the general resurrection I shall receive the same
again by the mighty power of God, and as touching
such worldly Estate whencewith it hath pleased God
to bless me with in this life, I give demise and
dispose of the same in the manner and form following
------
First, I give and bequeath to my eldest son ARON
[AARON} HOLDER all my land that lies on the norwest
side of the Watering Hole Branch and five head of
cattle, sixteen head of hogs and one horse and one
feather bed two guns.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my youngest son
SHADRACH HOLDER all the remainder of my land lying
on the south east side of the said Watering Hole
Branch and seven head of hogs and one feather bead
and one gun and one maire.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter SARAH
HOLDER the sum of Twenty shillings currency.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my two sons ARON &
SHADRACH HOLDER all the remainder of my property
that is not above mentioned after paying off my
debts then to bee equally divided between them.

Lastly, I appoint make and ordain my beloved friend
and neighbor DAVID PRUDEN and my son ARON HOLDER
Executors to this my last will and testament and I
utterly disallow revoke and disannull all other
former testaments, wills, legacies and bequest and
Executors by me made confirming this and no other to
bee my last will and testament in testamony whereof
I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and
year above written.

Signed sealed published pronounced

and delivered by the said testator to
be his last will and testament in
the presents of us.

This Last Will & Testament of ELISHA HOLDER dec'd
was proved in open court by the oath of ISAAC
HENDRIXEN one of the subscribing witnesses  ---
