I John Lassiter of the county of Bertie and state of North Carolina do make this my last will and testament as follows. First, I dinct that my funeral expenses and just debts be first paid. Secondly, I leave to my wife, Rachel Lassiter, all my lands, and the improvements thereon and the whole of my furnishable estate during her life. Thirdly, After the death of my wife I give and bequeath the said lands and improvements and furnishable estate to my sons_ to: John R. Lassiter Jr., James A. Lassiter and William J. Lassiter to them and their kins and asign farm. Fourthly, I have given my two granddaughters, Sofiley J. Hughes and Penelope White ten acres of land, a farm, which they now hold.
