In primis I first of all bequeath my soul to God that gave it, and my body to the earth be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executor after named, and as to my worldly estate I will and positively order that all my debts be paid. ITEM: I give and bequeath (to my) to my dear loving wife Elizabeth all my stock of cattle hogs and sheep and all my other moveables of what kind or nature vowise? (Negroes excepted) all which I give to her during her natural life or widowhood and after her marriage or decease to be equally divided between all my children. ITEM: I give and bequeath all my land to be equally divided between all my sons the plantation with an equal part to my old son Thomas. ITEM: As to my Negroes the Negro woman Lyd? I desire she should be sold and my debts to be paid with the money as far as it will go and the Negro man Joe I desire should be hired out yearly to the highest bidder till my oldest son Thomas comes to the age of twenty one years and at the expiration of what term of time his hire to be for my wife to help to raise my children. ITEM: I give and bequeath the above said Negro man Joe to be equally divided among all my children at the expiration of the above term of time to wit my son Thomas, minority, my son Thomas to have the Negro and pay the rest of my children and equal dividend of his the Negros value. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I so herewith set my hand and seal this 24th day of September in the day of our Lord 1772.
