BERTIE COUNTY WILL - MITCHELL, WILLIAM - 1796 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by goroke@cyberspace.org Charles Oliver                [THE WILL OF WILLIAM MITCHELL] In the name of God Amen, The Twenty Second day of January One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Six, And the Twentieth year of American Independence: I William Mitchel of the State of North Carolina and County of Bertie being of Perfect and Sound Memory, Do make This my Last Will and Testament, in the following Manner and form (To wit) Imprimise I Lend unto my beloved Wife Elisabeth Mitchel my Manour Plantation, Land, and Houses Enduring her Widowhood, and all my Stock of Horses, Cattle, Sheep, and Hogs, till the fall of the year -- And my Negroes (to wit) Cato, Rose and Cherry Enduring her Widowhood, and if it Should so happen that She Cannot Command the said Negroes so as to make them do their Duty, my Will and Desire is that they the said Negroes Shall be hired out for her Use so much as Shall make her a Competent living -- and all my household and Kitchen furniture, -- and the Corn and Meat now Laid in for the years Consumption I Give her, and Twenty Silver Dollars ----- Item.  I Give and devise to my Son Cader Mitchel my Manour Plantation and all the Lands I am possessed with, his heirs and Assigns forever, Likewise my Brandy Still, Worm and Cap, one [pair millstones?]. Item.  I Give unto Silva Scott Twenty Silver Dollars, I Give unto my Son Cader Mitchell one Case and Bottels, I Give unto my Grandson Wright Mitchel one French Musket, I Give unto my Grandson William Mitchel one English Musket, I Give unto my Grandson James Mitchel one Square barrell Gun, Item.  I Give unto Uriah Dunner five shillings, I Give unto my Son Cader Mitchel all the remaining part of my Money now in my House and all the Notes due me, The remaining part of my Estate I Give to be Equally Divided between all my Children (to wit) Cader Mitchel, Ede Cook, Judah Hardy, Winne Jinkins, Mary Hale, Mille Oliver, happy [here the word "Olliver" appears alone on the last line, at the right on the bottom of the first page, then is repeated as the first word of the next page] Olliver, --- and [Theny?] Dunnen, and [Rheny?] Dunnen to draw the part of their Mother (which is Dead) Equal to the last Clause aforementioned -- I Likewise Give unto my Son Cader Mitchel all my Wearing Appearal [sic], Lastly I Constitute and Appoint my Son Cader Mitchel, and James Jinkins Jun. my Executors of of [sic] this my Last Will and Testament, Ratifying and confirming this and and [sic] no Other to be my Last Will and Testament, And I do hereby Revoke and Disanul [sic] all and every Other or former Wills [unreadable 2-3 words] before by me Made, but Ratifying this as aforesaid and no Other.
