BERTIE COUNTY WILL - NICHOLS, WRIGHT-1844 (Jenkins, Jones) File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Marianne Nichols Ordway Dugolee@aol.com Originally procured and transcribed by Linda Gamel of NM WRIGHT NICHOLS (255-258) In the name of God Amen, I WRIGHT NICHOLS of Hertford County in the State of North Carolina being in a reasonable state of health and of sound mind and disposing memory thanks be given unto God, Calling to mind the mortality of my boddy an knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and constitute this my last will and Testament in the manner following (via) Item 1. I give and bequeath unto my son NIAL NICHOLS one negro Girl by the name of FILLIS and increase if any to him and his heirs forever also one tract of land lying in the County of Bertie where I used to live to him and his heirs forever. Item 2 I leave one negro man ISAAC to be sold and the money arising Therefrom to be equally divided between all of the Children of my son MILES NICHOLS then living. Item 3 I give and bequeath unto my son EVERET NICHOLS one hundred dollars to be raised out of my estate to him and his heirs forever. Item 4 I give and bequeath unto my son LEMUEL NICHOLS two negroes by the name of GILBERT and MERINA and thier increase if any which said negroes he has ow in his possession to him and his heirs forever also my hunting gun. Item 5. I lend unto my daughter MARY C. JENKINS three negroes by the names of DREW WINEFRED and MOSES which said negroes she has now in her possession and their increase if any and after her death I give the siad negroes and thier increases if any to be equally divided between all the children that said MARY C. JENKINS one tract of land which is now in her pssession bounded by the land that she now lives on by LEMUEL NICHOLS & JAMES MITCHELL lands and the land I now live on including the land I bought of MARY BAKER to his and heir heirs forever. Item 6 I lend unto my daughter MERENA M. JENKINS and JOHN W. JENKINS her husband during their natural lives three negroes by the names of SUSAN BOON and CIDDY and their increase if any which said negroes they have now in their possession and after their death I give the said negroes an their increase if any to be equally divided between all the children that said MERENA M. JENKINS may have then living to them and their heirs forever. Item 7. I lend unto my daughter BETSY J. JONES and her husband JOHN J. JONES during their natural lives two negroes by the names of LUKE and ANNIS and their increase if any and after their death I give said negroes and their increase to be equally divided between all the children that my said daughter BETSY J. JONES may have then living to them and their heirs forever, also I leave one tract of land that I purchased of JOHN GUYON lying on the south side of Ahosky swamp deed and plat will show for its self to be sold by my Executors and the money arising from the sale thereof I give unto my said daughter BETSY J. JONES and her heirs forever. Item 8. I give and bequeath unto my two grand sons WILLIAM A. NICHOLS and ROBERT G. NICHOLS four negroes by the names of GEORGE SILVY FANNY and ZILPHA and their increase if any to them and their heirs forever to be kept together until the said WILLIAM A. NICHOLS shall become of age then to be equally divided between the said two WILLIAM A. NICHOLS and ROBERT G. NICHOLS also I give to said WILLIAM A. NICHOLS one blue chest also I give to said ROBERT G. NICHOLS one trunk to them and their heirs forever also I give unto the said WILLIAM A. NICHOLS and ROBERT G. NICHOLS two tracts of land one of which I bought of LUKE SUMNER and JAMES SUMNER lying on the west side of Turkey swamp bounded as follows (viz) beginning at a Pine standing in JAMES HOLLOMAN line thence along a line of marked trees a southern to a Red oak near the road thence along said Road to the said Turkey Swamp also one other Tract of land that I purchased of GEORGE GORDON lying on the south side of the Mill Pond deed will show for its self to them and their heirs forever to be equally divided between the said two WILLIAM A. NICHOLS and ROBERT G. NICHOLS when said WILLIAM A. NICHOLS shall become of age. Item 9 I give and bequeath unto my daughter LURENDA NICHOLS my remaining plantation whereon I now live including a tract of land I purchased of WILLIAM DUNNING which deed will show for its self together with all the land adjoining that is not heretofore otherwise disposed of to hir and hir heirs forever also I give and bequeath unto my said daughter LURINDA NICHOLS five negroes by the name of THOMPSON, HARRIOTT, VENUS, HARRISON, and JOHN, to hir and hir heirs forever also I give unto my said daughter LURINDA NICHOLS Two feather Beds Bedsteads curtains and furniture hir choice to hir and hir heirs forever also I give unto my daughter LURINDA NICHOLS one cow and calf hir choise two Ewes and Lambs hir choice also one Walnut Table one Beaufit and furniture together with all my remaining house hold and Kitchen furniture also one Loom and gear also one house her choise one Buggy and harness all of which to hir an hir heirs forever Item 10 I leave all remaining of Real Personal and parishable property or any other estate or interest that belongs to me to be sold by my Executors and after paying all my Just debts and Funeral charges the balance if any to be equally divided between all my Children and grand children in the manner following to them and their heirs forever JOHN NICHOLS deceased heirs one share MARY C. ANDERSON and LODOWICK JENKINS Executors to this my last will and Testament revoking all wills heretofore made by me.
