BERTIE COUNTY WILL - OLIVER, JOHN - 1816 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by goroke@cyberspace.org Charles Oliver                                   [WILL OF JOHN OLIVER] In the name of God Amen -- I John Oliver, of the County of Bertie, and State of North carolina, being very sick and weak in body, but, of perfect mind and memory, thanks be given unto God; Calling unto my mind the mortality of my Body, and knowinf that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament; That is to say, principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial, at the discretion of my executors; nothing doubting but at the general redurrection, I shall receive the same again, by the mighty power of God, And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise [sic], and dispose of the same in the following manner and form, -- First, I Lend to Amela, my dearly beloved wife, all of my Lands and household and kitching [sic] furniture, with all my stock of horses, Cattle, hogs, bees, and all the farming utentials [sic], wich [sic] is my will and desire my dearly beloved wife, shall have during her natural life, -- Item, I give and bequeath to my Son Allen Oliver after the death of my wife, all my lands, Item, It is my will and desire that all the rest of my property after the death of my wife, shall be equally divided amongst my five Daughters, Viz, Patsey Oliver, Mary Oliver, Mary Oliver, Edeath Oliver, Amela Oliver, and Elizabeth Oliver, And I do hereby utterly disallow, revok [sic], and disannul [sic] all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies, bequests, and executors, by me in anywise before named, willed, and bequeathed, ratifying and confirming this, and no other to be my last will and testament [here the second page begins with the word This on the first line, which has been stricken] I likewise make and appoint John Robbins and Amela my wife to be the Executors, of this my last will and Testament, In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this twenty fourth [day is written in here in superscript with a ^ pointing to it] of January in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and sixteen, Signed, Sealed, Published, pronounced  } and declared by the said John          }   [here John Oliver has been signed in Oliver as his last will and            }            very shaky hand, then stricken out] Testament, in the presence of us       } who in his presence, and in the        }            John Oliver [almost as shaky] {Seal} presence of each other, have           } hereto subscribed our Names --         }        his Samuel  X  Hobbs        mark Hudson Pritchard John Bond, Junr State of North Carolina  } Bertie County            }  Feby Term 1816                             This last will Testament of John Oliver decd was proved in open Court by the Oath of John Bond Junr, one of the Subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded                                   Test.                                          Sol.
