BERTIE COUNTY ESTATE-Perry, Abraham / Mary Robinson -1788 File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Zane Perry This deed was made by Mary Robinson to Abraham Perry in Nov. 1787, but was not registered until after Abraham Perry's death preceeding May 1788, at which time the property would have reverted to Abraham Perry's Estate. It is believed that Mary Robinson was the mistress of Abraham Perry, and that Abraham Perry fathered at least three children by Mary Robinson -- Asenath Perry Robinson "Sena Perry", Arnold Perry Robinson "Arnold R. Perry", and Elizabeth "Betsy" Perry. Zane D. Greeting. Know ye that I, Mary Robinson of Bertie County and State of North Carolina, for and in Consideration of the sum of One Hundred Pounds Current money to me in hand paid before the Ensealing & Delivery hereof by Abraham Perry of the County and State aforesaid, the receipt whereof I hereby acknowledge and myself therewith fully satisfied, contented and paid, have given, granted, and by these presents do freely, fully, and absolutely give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, Convey and Confirm unto him the said Abraham Perry his heirs and assigns for ever one certain tract or parcel of land, containing by estimation one hundred and fifty acres be the same more or less, lying and being in Bertie aforesaid on the Eastermost Swamp, bounded as followeth; Beginning on Coll. James Campbell's Line, thence along his line to a pine in Salomon Stones' line, thence along Stone's line to a pine his Corner , thence running a line of marked trees to a Gum in Gum Branch, thence along said Gum Branch to Walton's line, thence on Walton's line to a poplar in Eastermost Swamp, thence down Sd Swamp to Pollock's line, & thence along Pollock's Line to the first Station. To have and to hold the said granted & bargained Premises with all appertenances, priviledges, & commodities for the same, Belonging or in any wise appertaining to him the sd Abraham Perry, his heirs and assigns for ever, and further I, the said Mary Robinson, do Covenant, Promise, Grant, and agree to and with the said Abraham Perry his heirs and assigns forever, that before the Ensealing and Delivery hereof, I am the true, sole and lawfull owner of the said Land and have in myself good right, full power & Lawfull authority to bargain and sell the same in fee simple, and further I, the said Mary Robinson, do bind myself, my Heirs, Executors, Administrators, and assigns to Warrant and Ever defend the said granted Premises unto him the sd Abraham Perry, his heirs and assigns forever against the Lawfull Claims or Demands of any Person or Persons whatsoever, free & clear from all Incumberances of what kind or nature soever, Quit Rents only excepted.
