John T. Ruffin's Will
State of Nort Carolina

I, John T. Ruffin, being weak in health but of sound & disposing mind do make &
publish this as my last will and testament in manner and form as follows, viz.

I give to my relation Thomas Ruffin, the sum of Three Hundred Dollars which I
wish expended or a sufficiency thereof to give him a good education.

All the rest and residue of my estate of every description, both real, mixed and
personal and all my right in action, notes of hand & C. I give to my nephew,
John R. Smallwood, son of Thomas J.P. Smallwood to him, his heirs & assigns
forever.

In witness of all which I have hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this 20th
day of December 1851, hereby publishing this as my only will.

State of North Carolina, Bertie County Court Feb term 1852
This last will and testament of John T. Ruffin was exhibited in open Court and
proved by the oaths of J.J. Pugh and H.H. Hardy two of the subscribing witnesses
thereto and ordered to be recorded at the same time.
H.H. Hardy qualified as Administrator with the will annexed by giving bong for
the sum of Sixty Thousand Dollars with J.J. Pugh, T.B. Hardy, and Jas H. Hardy
Wm P. Gurley Clerk

Note: Thomas (relation) probably was the son of Whitmell Ruffin.
John T. Ruffin (June 7, 1829-Dec 20, 1851) He was the son of John Ruffin. John
had divided his large land holdings between this 3 children: Sally Ruffin
Smallwood, John T., and Willie Julia Ruffin
