Will file, NC State Archives CR.010.801.16, date of will 7 Nov 1801, date proved Feb Ct. 1802, executors “my wife Ann Tayloe and my two sons, Richard Tayloe and Benj. Tayloe and my brother David Taylor, “perfect mind and disposing memory”....”knowing my time in this life is short”; loving wife Ann Taylor, (various personal items, furniture) also during her life my manor plantation, (one third part of house room excepted), 275 acres of land I bought of Benjamin Warren, one negro man named (Coop), one negro woman named Cherry, also during her life or widowhood all the land and plantation I bought of Jonathan Thomas and the swamp land adjoining all my land on the west side of the branch; son Richard Taylor the plantation and land ajoining thereof that I bought of Thos. Holliday in Martin Co., one cow and calf and after my wife’s decease, one negro woman named Cherry and 20 pounds of currency; grandchild David Taylor, son of Kinchen Taylor, dec’d during his life the plantation and land I bought of Amos (Kail) and that part of the land I bought of Wm. (W) Wynns lying in the fork of the Great Branch including the plantation where Wm. (Hobs) Turnage formerly lived as far as the hickory tree standing in the plantation then across the (reedy) branch including all that part of Wynns land on the east side of the (reedy) branch and at the David’s decease, if he leaves any lawful heir begotten of his body then I give the aforesaid lent land to him, but if David should die without lawful heir, land to go to Benjamin Taylor and George Taylor or the survivor of them, land to be used by Benjamin Taylor until David Taylor reaches age of 21, I give to my grandchild my old hunting gun call black stock; son Benjamin Taylor 100 acres of land I bought of Josiah Freeman and 75 acres of land, part of the 300 acres I bought of Wm. Walkin Wynns ajoining the land formerly belonged to Matthew Mitchel, Jacob Freeman and the main road and one third part of all the house room on my manner plantation, (also some personal property and stock) and after my wife’s decease, negro man named (Coop) and the plantation where I now live; so as to include 275 acres of land that I bought of Benj. Warren, likewise the land and plantation I bought of Jonathan Thomas, including all the land lying west side of Great Branch, I lend to my son Benjamin, during his mother’s lifetime, one negro woman named Bett, and give to my son Benjamin Taylor 3 ewes and lambs & three sheep; son George Taylor during his natural life all that land and plantation I bought of Nathan Tart & 100 acres I bought of Benj. Warren joining on two sides of said Tart’s land, likewise the plantation where on John Thomas formerly lived with the remainder part of the land I bought of Wm. W. Wynns, not before given to my grandson, David Taylor and Benjamin Taylor, but if my son George Taylor at his decease should leave a lawful heir begotten of his body, then I give the above lent land unto them, if he die without leaving a lawful begotten heir, land is to go to my son Benjamin; to son George, also some personal property; to my daughter Winifred Sparkman one negro boy named Elisha and one negro girl named Hanner, called Little Hanner; to my daughter Isebella Witherington one negro woman named Hanner, one negro girl named Lucy and 30 pounds currency; to granddaughter Kiddy Fleetwood, (personal property); to my daughter Penelopy Fleetwood 20 shillings sterling; all unmentioned property to be divided between my wife and five children, after paying my debts and granddaughter (viz) Ann Taylor, Richard Taylor, Benj. Taylor, George Taylor, Winnifred Sparkman, Isebella Witherington & Kiddy Fleetwood; after my wife’s death, the negro woman Bett is to be sold and equally divided between my five children and grandchild Kiddy Fleetwood; signed Abrm.
