I Thomas Veale of the state of North Carolina and county of Bertie being in a declining state of health and much affected in body, but of perfect found mind and disposing memory and having a wish to dispose of what property I possess or have title to __what different from the method prevised by law do make and ordain this my last will and testament in the following manner. In the first place I recommend my Soul to God the author of its being and trust and hope for a happy resurrection by and through the merits of our Savior Jesus Christ. My body I wish disposed of in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executor. I lend unto my loving and affectionate wife, Rachel Veale, one Negro boy, Ned, during her life and after the payment of all my just debts. I given unto my said wife, Rachel, the whole of any property that may remain of what nature soever as also all property whether real or personal or mixed to which I may have any right or interest whatsoever to her and her heirs forever. I given unto my daughter-in-law Sally Ann and Winnefred Harrel the above named Negro boy, Ned after the decease of my wife if there living if either of them should die before their mother then to the survivor and heirs forever. Lastly I nominate constitute and appoint my loving wife, Rachel Veale, Executrix to this my last will and testament which I acknowledge as such this 13th day of March Anno Domini 1826. Thomas Veale Witness; John Ruffin, Sally Grimes May Term 1826 This last will and testament of Thomas Veal dec'd was proved in open court by the oath of John Ruffin one of the subscribing witnesses, and ordered to be recorded. Rachel Veale qualified as Executrix at Nov term 1826. Note: Son of Thomas Veal (ca 1752 - 1806) and Elizabeth Carney Veal (?1755 -1829) Brother of Richard Veal (ca 1773-1820) and wife Ann Harrell. Wife: Rachel ? (possibly Harrell?) Not sure meaning of "daughter-in-law" Sally Ann and Winnefred Harrell. There were close family ties between the Harrell- Gardner - Veal families.
