In the name of God amen I LUKE WHITE of the State of North Carolina & County of Bertie being in full sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be to God for the same but calling to mind the mortality of mankind knowing that is appointed for all mankind once to dye hath agreed and consented to make this my last will and testament in this manner & form as follows: Item 1st I will and desire for all my just debts and funeral charges should be paid after which I give and bequeath unto my son JAMES WHITE all that tract of land I purchased of HENRY RAY containing four hundred and ninety eight acres by the deed be the same more or less to him and his heirs forever and also a negro boy named NELSON and also the cow and calf & feather bed and furniture that he has alredy received is to remain his forever. Item 2nd I give and bequeath unto my son ISAAC WHITE all that tract of land I purchased of TIMOTHY HUNTER known by the name of ROLLINS tract / containing 102 acres / also a negro boy named VIRGIN and one cow and calf and the feather bed and furniture that he has already received is to remain his forever & his heirs. Item 3rd I give and bequeath unto my daughter ELIZABETH fifty cents as she has already received her share. Item 4th I give & bequeath unto my son MEADY WHITE fifty cents and what he has already received to him and his heirs forever. Item 5th I give and bequeath unto my son JOSIAH WHITE all the tract of land whereon I now live and all the other tracts adjoining to it & also that tract of land I purchased of ELIZABETH HARREL to him & his heirs forever and the following Negroes, (viz) HARRY, HANOVER, SAM (something marked out ) FOSTEN JACK & WINNEY & all my stock of every kind Horses cattle hogs sheep etc and farming utentsals & tools of all kinds coopers & carpenters and money notes and accounts to him & his heirs and also I give unto my son JOSIAH all the Kitchen furniture and the blacksmith tools & one feather bed and furniture. Item 6th I give and bequeath unto my daughter MARGARETT one Negro woman named CELIA & her two children ANDREW & FANNY & one feather bed and furniture also one chest & one table to her & her heirs forever. Item 7th I give & bequeath unto my daughter CENITH WHITE one Negro woman named AMY ? & her children GANSEY LUIZA FED and HARRIET & all her increase hereafter also one feather bed and furniture & one chest and one table. Item 8th I give and bequeath unto my Grand sons LUKE WHITE JOSIAH WHITE & AMUS WHITE the sons of my son AMUS WHITE that tract of land whereon they now live / to be equally divided between them / & their mother SUSAN WHITE is to have the thirds of the land her lifetime. Item 9th I give & bequeath unto my Grand daughters MARY ELIZABETH and NANCY the daughters of my son AMUS WHITE twenty dollars each to be paid out of my estate by my son JOSIAH WHITE after they arrive to the age of twenty one years. Item 10th I give unto my son JOSIAH all my corn fodder peas pork & all other provisions & things that has not already been given away. Item 11th My will and desire is that I wish my girls to live on the plantation as long as they live single, who are MARGARETT & CENITH. I do nominate constitute and appoint my son JOSIAH WHITE the executor of this my last will & testament. In witness whereof I heretofore set my hand and seal this the 13th day of September AD 1823.
