Deed Book S pg 142-3 WILLIAM RUFFIN to JOHN RUFFIN Feb 10, 1800 To all to whom these presents shall come greeting. Know ye that I, William Ruffin, Senr of the State of North Carolina & County of Bertie for in consideration of the good will that I have and do bear toward my son John Ruffin of the County and State aforesaid, I the said, William Ruffin Senr have given to him the said John Ruffin all my land and plantation that I now live on contained by estimation five hundred acres be there more or less beginning at a black gum in Roquist runing thence North Eighty Est 183 pole to a forked sweet gum thence No. 10 W 60 pole to a black gum thence No 5 Es 68 pole to a sweet gum on a branch near a willow oak formerly Abram Shepards beginning thence up the said branch that divides between Thomas Miers and Thomas Veal to the head thereof and so along a line of marked trees to the head line to a pine in the head said line so up the said line to a hiccory thence No 60 W220 pole to three hiccories then South 30 West 118 pole to three pines on a branch that makes into Rocquist Swamp thence the windings of the said branch & swamp to the first station. All which land contained in the above boundary, I the said, William Ruffin Senr for myself my heirs executors or administrators do give grant and freely of my own accord set over to my son John Ruffin to him and to his heirs Executors or administrators with all profits to be on the said land procured or in anywise thereto appertaining, appertaining to him the said John Ruffin and his only use clear of the title or claim of any person or persons whatever, I the said William Ruffin Senr do also give to my said son John Ruffin, my Negro Girl named Winney & her child Abba with all her increase hereafter to come to him, his heirs or administrators for me my heirs. All the remaining part of my estate not given to my son John, except Five pounds a piece that I give to my son, James Ruffin & my daughter Sarah King to them and their heirs forever after paying of all my just debts & give and bequeath to my children hereafter named Henry Ruffin, William Ruffin, Thomas Ruffin, Starkey Ruffin, Whitmell Ruffin and Blunt Ruffin both my household furniture and stock of all kinds both household and plantation utensils, I give to my above named children for me my heirs executors/ administrators/ or assigns to them and their heirs executors or administrators to be equally devised, share and share alike. I the said, William Ruffin Senr do hereby agreed and ratify the aforementioned deed of gift to be freely and clearly given by & at my own request by making this exception before assigning it. That I have of it my own life to live on.
